Duke Roufus...
Back For The Fans...
Back For The Fight!

Special To The IKF From Milwaukee Wisconsin, USA:
Former IKF Super Heavyweight MuayThai World Champion (And holder of 3 other World Titles) Duke Roufus (Right, 36-8-1/26 ) had last *retired from competition in 2002 due to various lingering injuries. However, Roufus succumbed to his passion for the sport with his recent decision to jump back into the ring. The comeback is a big bonus for his legion of hometown fans in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as well.

Roufus will headline the just announced IKF Sanctioned Heavyweight Gladiators "Return To Colosseum" show that begins at 8:PM on Friday, June 3, 2005 at Milwaukee's Ramada Inn Grand Ballroom, 6401 S. 13th St., Milwaukee, WI USA. "Return To Colosseum" will feature IKF Amateur & Professional Kickboxing, plus as an added attraction, ISCF Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) bouts will also be included on the evening's card. MMA has become popular among ringsports fans in recent years , attracting huge live and pay-per-view audiences along with a well received "reality TV" MMA show that Spike is currently airing.

Promoter Scott Joffe of Ad Cetera Sports is in negotiations with potential opponents for Roufus and one should be named soon. Other Heavyweight Gladiators Kickboxers appearing include Horace "The Real Deal" Craft, of Cudahy, Wisconsin, "Bam Bam" Bryce Franck, of Rockford, Illinois and "Big" Ben Rothwell of Kenosha, Wisconsin. Pro MMA fighters include Henry "The Monkey" Matamoros, John Friedland and Bobby Garrits, all of Milwaukee. Over 12 bouts are planned for the card.

Roufus, 35, looks forward to putting on a great show for the Milwaukee faithful who have always backed the lifelong resident since he started competing as a teenager. "I've had a craving burning inside for a while. I finally had enough time for everything to heal and I think I've got some fight left in me, and, what I really miss, is fighting in Milwaukee. When I fight in Milwaukee, the fans are always loud and proud, and that motivates me beyond words." Duke exclaimed.

(*) Roufus won his IKF World Title on December 4th, 1998 in Milwaukee Wisconsin, USA (Right) over Hiriwa TeRangi of New Zealand by unanimous decision 50-43 on all 3 judges cards. He defended it once with a first round KO over Grant Barker of Sydney Australia. Roufus voluntarily vacated his Super Heavyweight Title to move down to the Heavyweight Muay Thai Division. He later retired. However, at the end of October, 2000 he announced he would come out of retirement to fight in the K-1 USA. He lost his second round bout in the May, 2001 K-1 USA and his opening round bout in the August K-1 USA. On December 11th, 2002 he made his retirement official due to his busy schedule with promoting his own events and other work. His final fight record was 36-8-1/26 and in pro boxing he was 2-0/1.

LTD Productions
Has Success With Another
Fairfield Fight Fest

IKF Fairfield, California, USA
Last Saturday night, March 26th, LTD Productions hosted yet another edition of their "Fairfield Fight Fest" events. This was the first of 6 planned events for 2005. the event featured 3 IKF California State Amateur Title bouts.

Many were looking forward to a War in the nights Main Event bout which was for the vacant IKF MuayThai Rules Amateur California Super Heavyweight Title bout between 2004 IKF/TKO North American Classic Super Heavyweight IR Champion Rick Cheek (Right, 10-0/9, 237, 6'4", 27, Billy Olson) of Santa Rosa, California, USA and Ben Davis (29-8/18, 239, 6', 28, Gene Fields) of Atwater, California, USA.

What many had hoped to be a good long war between these two ended quickly when Cheek landed a tremendous leg kick to Davis' left thigh that dropped Davis to the ropes. Cheek finished him off with another kick that put Davis out for the count at 50 seconds of the first round winning Cheek another piece of IKF Gold. The question now is, "What is Cheek's next move?" Check out our article below in regards to this.

The Semi Main event was for the vacant IKF Muay Thai Rules Amateur California Super Welterweight Title between Julian Lugo Jr. of Barstow, California, USA (9-4/4, 152, 5'7", 31, Abe Belardo) and Ricky Almondia (Left) of San Jose, California, USA (6-1/2, 148, 5'6", 25, Cung Le). We were surprised to hear Lugo wanted to drop so much weight for this challenge. Knowing this didn't surprise us when Lugo seemed to lose gas near the end of round 2 in the scheduled 4 round bout. Almondia took advantage of this since he was comfortably in his weight class as he went on to win by a questionable majority decision, 38-38, 40-36 and 39-37. We say questionable because we thought this was a clear unanimous decision win for Almondia.

The third title bout was for the vacant IKF MuayThai Rules Amateur California Light Cruiserweight Title bout between Chris Cope of Santa Barbara, California, USA (7-0/2, 184, 6'1", 22, Mike Morello) and David Denison of Santa Rosa, California, USA (9-8/0, 185, 5'9", 30, Billy Olson). In this bout Denison appeared to us to be the aggressor but the question was, was aggressiveness scoring? Cope was often countering in retreat during most of the bout but when he countered, his shots were hitting their target. Denison won the aggressiveness battle but according to the judges they saw Cope win on points as all 3 scored it 39-37 for Cope who took home the title.

Here are the results of the undercard on the night below.

  • Fernando Paez of San Francisco, California, USA (1-0/0, 158, 5'8", 24, Kru Sam Phimsoutham) defeated Victor Li of San Jose, California, USA (3-3/0, 154, 5'11", 34, Cung Le) by unanimous decision 29-28, 30-27 and 29-28.
  • Michael Fonseca of San Francisco, California, USA (2-0/0, 184, 5'9", 30, Kru Sam Phimsoutham) defeated Sam Spangler of San Jose, California, USA (3-3/0, 183, 5'11", 28, Cung Le) by unanimous decision 30-27 on all 3 judges cards.
  • Andrew Valledarez of San Jose, California, USA (7-0/1, 124, 5'6", 17, Cung Le) extended his undefeated record to 7-0 as he defeated Larry Kloak of Modesto, California, USA (2-2/0, 122, 5'4", 18, Gene & Cat Fields) by unanimous decision 29-28, 30-27 and 30-27.

We would like to thank the nights Main Sponsors, Long time Kickboxing supporter Stanley Davis of Vacaville, California, USA as well as Channel Lumber of Napa, California, USA.

LTD Productions' next event is scheduled for April 30th in Fairfield, California, USA. For more info please contact Tim Stell of LTD Productions at (707) 290-8192 or by e-mail at ltdkickboxing@yahoo.com or Dan Stell at (707) 372-0882 or by e-mail at Bambamstell@aol.com

MORE NEWS OF 3-28-05

Is K-1's Super Heavyweight Picture
Really In Question?

Of Course it IS!

To say K-1 isn't looking at Rick Cheek right now would either be a lie or a statement of someone who has no clue of the sport. We all know K-1 knows what's up, so of course they have him in their sights. However, Cheek has also been given the clearance for a shot at the vacant IKF Amateur MuayThai Rules Super Heavyweight World Title. All that's needed will be his top ranked opponent who at this time is the number 2 contender, IKF Amateur MTR Super Heavyweight European Champion Chris Knowles of Watford, England (11-0-1).

If Knowles is willing to take the challenge the fight could happen as soon as the next month or two. Regardless, the big picture for Cheek will be a spot in an upcoming K-1 USA event. However, here is where questions come in. If Cheek says "Yes" for the upcoming April K-1 in Las Vegas, "Would he be taking the spot of IKF Pro FCR Super Heavyweight World Champion Mark Selbee?" Selbee was first placed in the April 8 man K-1 USA tournament. However, as of recently (Prior to this weekend) they had placed him in a super bout against an opponent to be named. Many have been questioning (Again, as in past K-1 USA Events) the fight line-up for this coming April K-1 USA event. It appears to be a very questionable mix of talent. We all know Mike McDonald, and Carter Williams will give a good "Kickboxing" show and even Dewey Cooper, but why are Glaube Feitosa, Yusuke Fujimoto, Tsuyoshi Nakasako, Gary Goodrich and Sean O'Haire in what is 'Suppose' to be such a prestigious event?

O'Haire claims on his website he has been training in martial arts since age 10 and is a third-degree black belt, was a pro boxer in New Jersey and won 17 Toughmen Competitions in North Carolina. However, if he was a pro boxer anywhere, why can't we find him in any of the Pro boxing listings such as www.boxrec.com? On the K-1 site they claim he has a kickboxing record of 10-1. However the only record we found of him doing any kickboxing was a seconds round TKO loss this past December on K-1's 'Premium 2004 Dynamite' event against Musashi. Also on the K-1 site they claim he has a 8-0 record in MMA. However again, we only found 1 of his MMA fights on record, a win at K-1's Rumble on the Rock on November 20, 2004 in Honolulu, Hawaii. The only place it appears he has made a splash at all is in big time fake wrestling with the WCW.

What about Glaube Feitosa? Is he really a contender for the K-1 USA crown? Why put someone in with a record of 5 wins and 9 loses? Or what about Yusuke Fujimoto, who has lost to 'Butterbean...' by KO (June 29th, 2003, K-1 BEAST II) But who did happen to beat Dewey Cooper at last years K-1 USA, but hasn't everyone? Cooper has built a great Pro Boxing record (12-0-2/8), but he seems to be jinxed in K-1. K-1 has him listed with a K-1 record of 5 wins and 6 loses, but many are wondering where he comes up with his overall record he claims of 29-8 with 17 KO/TKO. The only answer we can come up with is he is including his Pro Boxing record in there and of course, as many do, his amateur kickboxing as well.

Which Gary Goodrich will show up in April? Why ask this? Well he has a 5-7 kickboxing record and combine it with MMA he is 24-21, which shows he can win as easily as he can lose on any outing. In 2004 he went 4-3 with first round KO wins over TOA (1-1), a fighter who calls himself 'The Predator' (Go figure) and Cyril Abidy, a fighter who's winning days pretty much ended back in mid 2003 because since June of 2003 he has lost 6 of his last 8 bouts. If one were going by gambling odds and the numbers, one would hope Goodrich is due for a win soon... Or does the fight game work like gambling... Probably not.

But this line-up gets worse. Take Tsuyoshi Nakasako for example. WHY is he in there? This Japan based fighter has a record of 16 wins and 18 loses and has lost 7 of his last 9 bouts. What makes him a contender? Ya, this makes us want to pay for this PPV showing...NOT!

In the end, what K-1 USA Promoter Scott Coker has on his hands is a terrible line-up. However, there is something many may not know here. If Coker really was the one making all the calls here in matchmaking for these K-1 USA events, we would bet over half these guys wouldn't even be guests at the event. Although we didn't speak to Coker about all this, the rule is, K-1 Japan makes all the final matchmaking decisions here and this time, they are trying to please the Japanese audience who appear to be more interested in big time wrestling instead of winners or stars of this sport known here in North America.

It's no surprise to anyone here, or even the K-1 Japan people that Coker is a great promoter. Why do you suppose they wanted him to promote their K-1 USA Events? However since Coker and Mike Sawyer (Former head of ISKA) teamed up with K-1 Japan, we have missed those 'Super Cards' in San Jose, CA. Coker's smaller Strikeforce cards are just not the same anymore. Surly Coker and Sawyer could create their own MAGA Tournament event, far better than those we have been seeing, and one that would sell to the North American PPV Audiences. If not them, we wish someone would either break the K-1 mold or duplicate it and bring back the REAL mega shows again! Or at least a better 8 man tournament if this is the publics desire. One's we can all be excited to see when they come like K-1 "USE" to be.

In fact, if anyone can do it, A REAL Heavyweight "North America" Tournament card would feature North American Super Stars of our sport like these guys below (Granted there are others, but we selected these for this article). You remember them... The WINNERS!

Now that would be a card not only worth a PPV fee, but we would fly to Vegas to see it!

LTD PRODUCTIONS
Ready For

"Fairfield Fight Fest"

IKF California, USA
This Saturday night, March 26th, LTD Productions will kick off their first of a very aggressive promotional schedule at he Allen Witt Sports Center in Fairfield, California, USA. Saturday's event will be the first of 6 "Fairfield Fight Fest" events (April 30th, May 28th, July 30th, September 24th, October 29th and November 26th) and will feature 3 IKF California State Amateur Title bouts.

The Main Event will be the quest for the vacant IKF MuayThai Rules Amateur California Super Heavyweight Title bout between 2004 IKF/TKO North American Classic Super Heavyweight IR Champion Rick Cheek (Right) of Santa Rosa, California, USA against Ben Davis of Atwater, California, USA.

Cheeks is trained by Billy Olsen of Nor-Cal Fighting Alliance and enters the bout with a perfect record of 9 wins and no loses with all but 1 of his 9 wins coming by way of KO/TKO. He is a perfect candidate for K-1 with a height of 6'4" and weighing 250 lbs. At 27 years old he will be mature enough to handle the pressure of such a pro career as well.

At the 2004 IKF/TKO North American Classic Cheek first faced Bernard Settle Jr. of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, USA in his opening round bout. Cheek won the bout with Settle by TKO at 1:03 of round 2 on Saturday to move on to the Finals on Sunday.

In the final Cheek faced Brian Wells of Cordova, Tennessee, USA and went on to win by unanimous decision 30-27, 29-28 & 30-27. Cheek will have his hands full with Davis though who has far more experience than both Wells and Settle combined. The 28 year old Davis (Left) of Atwater, California is no little guy himself. At 6'1" and weighing in at 245 lbs. He holds a record of 14 wins and 4 loses with 4 wins by KO/TKO's.

The Semi Main event will feature the quest for the vacant IKF MuayThai Rules Amateur California Light Cruiserweight Title bout between Chris Cope (Sorry no photo on file) of Santa Barbara, California, USA and David Denison (Sorry no photo on file) of Santa Rosa, California, USA. Cope enters the bout with a perfect record of 6 wins with no loses with 2 wins coming by way of KO/TKO. Although Denison has been in the ring twice as much as Cope and comes in with more experience, that experience has cost him from a perfect record. Denison has faced some stiff competition over the years including Canada's Scott Clark who defeated Denison at last years 2004 IKF/TKO North American Classic by KO at 1:18 of round 3. Denison's record is 7-7 with 3 wins coming by KO/TKO.

The final of the 3 IKF Title bouts will feature the challenge for the vacant IKF Muay Thai Rules Amateur California Super Welterweight Title between Julian Lugo Jr. (Right) of Barstow, California, USA and Ricky Almondia (Left) of San Jose, California, USA.

Lugo currently holds the IKF Muay Thai California Amateur Middleweight Title. He won the title on September 27th, 2003 in Fairfield, California, USA when he defeated David Anderson by TKO at 1:54 of round 3. in his first defense he faced Anderson again on April 24th, 2004 in Santa Barbara, California, USA and again defeated Anderson, this time more convincingly by KO at 1:58 of round 2. Lugo holds a record of 8 wins and 3 loses and is trained by Abe Belardo of Bakersfield, California, USA.

Almondia knows little about losing with a fight record of 6 wins and only 1 loss. He is coming fresh off a second round TKO win over Chris Aldea in San Jose California on March 18th. He is trained by Cung Le out of San Jose, California, USA. This should be a WAR! Here is the way the remainder of the nights card looks as of press time tonight. All are 3 round bouts.

  • Van Polosio Vs. Ryan McClintock
  • Fernando Paez Vs. Victor Li
  • Vishnu Gulati Vs. Tim Norman
  • Michael Fonseca Vs. Sam Spangler
  • Larry Kloak Vs. Andrew Valledarez

The card will also feature what LTD Productions calls their "Brawl Bowl". These 5 bouts are fought under amateur boxing rules. The Main Sponsors of the event are long time Kickboxing supporter Stanley Davis of Vacaville, California, USA as well as Channel Lumber of Napa, California, USA.

For more info please contact Tim Stell of LTD Productions at (707) 290-8192 or by e-mail at ltdkickboxing@yahoo.com or Dan Stell at (707) 372-0882 or by e-mail at Bambamstell@aol.com

Kill SB224
By Matthew Corsey
To Read This Bill Click Here

As many of you (In Georgia, USA) already know, the sport of MMA faces a crisis in the state of Georgia. The issue at hand is proposed legislation titled SB224. This bill has already passed through the GA Senate, largely due to the fact that many in the GA MMA community were unaware of the bill prior to its Senate passage. The bill is now coming up for discussion and a possible vote in the GA House of Representatives.
What many of you may not know is that this bill has the potential to affect the sport of MMA across the country.

When most people think of MMA in the US, they think of the UFC. What many people do not know is that this high-profile promotion only represents a fraction of one percent of the athletes who engage in and support the sport of MMA.
The vast majority of MMA athletes and sportsmen fight in small, grass-roots shows throughout the United States. These shows are the only venue in which an amateur or little-known professional fighter will likely ever compete. Often turning little or no profit, these shows are supported by legions of loyal fans and promoted for only one reason—for the love of the sport of MMA.
The state of Georgia has long been a national leader in the promotion and development of the sport of MMA. Georgia hosted one of the earliest UFCs, as well as other large promotions like the WEF, the RSF, Shidokan and the WEFC. But have you ever heard of the Gauntlet Trials? The Cagefighter Championships? The Fight Party? The Throwdown in V-Town? Winter Wars? Fall Brawl? Compound Fracture? The Submission Fighting Open? All of these promotions and more take place right here in the state of Georgia. Fighters from all over the country travel to GA—often at their own expense—just for the chance to participate in this great sport of MMA. Indeed, some have even gone so far as to call GA an "MMA Mecca" for the sheer number of shows promoted here very year.

SB224 spells the death of this vibrant MMA scene in GA, and establishes a solid precedent for the death of the MMA community in many other states should their legislators choose to follow in Georgia's footsteps.
The main purpose of SB224 is to hand full control of MMA in GA to the GA Athletic Commission. While AC involvement may not sound like a negative on the face of things, the fact is that the proposed bill will serve only to line the pockets of the AC while crushing the vibrant MMA community here in Georgia.
What a lot of fans do not realize is that many MMA shows make very little money. In fact, many MMA promotions actually LOSE money when all of the accounting is said and done. These promotions barely squeak by, financially speaking, and the losses are absorbed by dedicated individuals who give up personal assets to promote the sport.

Under SB224, every sanctioning body will have to pay a $1000 annual fee to the AC. This fee will naturally be passed onto the promoters. But the fees don't end there. Each promoter will have to pay a $500 annual fee just to promote! Each promoter will also have to pay the sanctioning bodies for the right to be sanctioned, for referees and judges, and for event representatives to watch over each promotion. Under SB224, the AC has the right to demand that AC representatives also be present at cost to the promoter. Sounds costly? Well now add in the "per-bout" fees that the AC can charge under the bill. Will the fees ever end? Not quite yet! Promoters are also required to pay the AC a fee of 5% of GROSS receipts from the promotion, up to a maximum of $40,000!

If any of you have worked with a small promotion or even owned a small business, you know how hard it is to turn a profit. Overhead, labor costs, taxes, insurance, cleanup, concessions, etc. leave little or nothing left to profit. Often the margin is in the low single digits. If further reduced by these proposed fees, the cost becomes outrageous.
SB224 will create a climate where only the independently wealthy will be able to promote.

Proponents of SB224 have argued that AC involvement will prevent corruption in promoting MMA. Yet certain GA MMA promoters have e-mails from the boxing commission indicating that those who oppose this bill will have a very difficult time trying to promote once it passes. Furthermore, I have been told that one promoter close the AC has even bragged that his fees will be waived if the bill passes. And this is the way they stop corruption?

There has also been much ado about the proposed "10-year felon ban" clause in the bill. Proponents of the bill try to frame the issue so that they can smear anyone against the bill as being "pro-felon." This is a straw-man argument. In point of fact, no one who has promoted MMA in GA within the past year would be hindered by this clause. This clause is just one more tool that those in favor of SB224 can use to distract concerned citizens from the real issues.

The solution is not to amend SB224, or to turn a blind eye to its passing. The very sport of MMA may indeed rest on the passage or failure of this bill. SB224 does not need to go any further than it has already gone. The destruction of MMA in GA would be a crippling blow to the sport as a whole.
I have been informed that the bill is currently under review by GA congressman Earl Erhart. Rep. Erhart (eaeh@facilitygroup.com) sits on several powerful committees and has the power to stop this bill in its tracks. Today I urge you to e-mail congressman Erhart and let your voice be heard. Do not stand by while our sport is destroyed by the powerful "old boys" network of connected promoters, politicians, and commissioners. Please e-mail Congressman Erhart (eaeh@facilitygroup.com) right now.

If you are unsure of what to write, you may copy the following e-mail, or use it as a starting point.

____________________

Dear Representative Erhart,
Please vote AGAINST SB224. SB224 will cripple or destroy the sport of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) in Georgia, and also stands to hinder many other combat sports affected by the broad language of this bill. The fee structures proposed by SB224 will eliminate many if not all of the current martial sport promotions in the state of Georgia. Georgia has long been a national leader in martial sport. SB224 will serve to eliminate this position of leadership, and relegate Georgians to the role of spectators in the sports they love and support. In these days of tight budgets and excessive regulation, the last thing Georgia taxpayers want or need is bigger and more invasive government. Please do your part to keep this state a national leader in martial sports.
Respectfully,
XXXXX X. XXXXX

SB224 Eliminates
College Wrestling in Georgia

By James Corbett

It has come to my attention that SB224 will completely eliminate sanctioned college wrestling events in Georgia. SB224 does not list the National Collegiate Wrestling Association, (NCWA - www.ncwa.net), as a body legally empowered to sanction collegiate wrestling in Georgia.

The following post-secondary schools in Georgia compete in NCWA events
(Source: http://www.ncwa.net/Teams/NCWA%20College/teams?state=true#Georgia):
Georgia NCWA Teams
School State Conference
Georgia College and State University Georgia Southeast
Georgia Tech Georgia Southeast
Kennesaw State Georgia Southeast
Mercer University Georgia Southeast
University of Georgia Georgia Southeast

Again, these teams compete in NCWA events within the state of Georgia which would be ILLEGAL according to SB224.
Also, teams from outside of Georgia compete here in NCWA events. They bring dollars which not only help fund our collegiate wrestling teams, they also boost local economies as well.
SB224 needs to be stopped before it passes the House. Not only will it make collegiate wrestling events illegal, but will also cripple other combat sports including Mixed Martial Arts, Kickboxing, Karate and Grappling/Jujitsu tournaments.
If you require any more information about SB224, please contact me as needed at (229) 460-0664.
Sincerely
James Corbett

Nicole Hess
Takes Home Another Title

Special Sent To The IKF

Virginia, USA
Four time IKF Champion Nicole Hess from Alexandria, Virginia, USA is no stranger to the IKF News page here. The 17 year old MiKiDo Team kickboxer has once again made headlines here by defeating Thailand Amateur World Muay Thai Gold Medalist Linda Loyce of the Fairtex Muay Thai Gym in San Francisco California. Loyce along with Hess is considered one of the best Amateur female fighters in the world. The two met in the ring on March 12th of this year in Fresno, California where Hess defeated Loyce in a close 5 round decision.

Nicole now has 12 titles and has a record of 18-0 with 6 KO/TKO's. "We went to California to beat the best and bring the title back to the MiKiDo Camp just as planned!" says her dad and coach Mike Hess.

Mike Hess' fighters have won 43 titles in Kickboxing and over 400 wins in Karate Tournaments, a record not soon to be broken. Nicole is currently ranked number 1 in the IKF Amateur Full Contact Rules and Amateur Muay Thai Rules. She started her Kickboxing career in the IKF National Tournaments in 2001. Loyce has never attended the yearly IKF Tournament which will have it's 7th straight year this August in Orlando, Florida.

The event has always featured "The Best" Amateur Kickboxers in North America and continues to be the proving ground for those amateur fighters like Hess, who want to prove to the world they are the BEST! Since winning her first IKF National Tournament in 2001 Hess has been "The Best for 4 straight years in a row!" Her IKF Tournament Titles include:

  • 2001 IKF USA National Amateur Tournament IR Junior Bantamweight Title
    • Defeated Ellie Tarbill of Dixon, Illinois by TKO in 2nd round
  • 2002 IKF USA National Amateur Tournament FCR Junior Flyweight Title

SHOCKER IN ENGLAND
As Last Second Replacement EPSTEIN
Captures IKF Amateur World Title

IKF England
IKF European Director Alby Bimpson called it correctly when he said "This replacement fighter I have seen fight myself and he was of a very good standard although his record of fights may indicate inexperience, I can assure you this is not the case." The event was held in Kings Hall Herne Bay, Kent, England and promoted by IKF Promoter Lee Whittington on Saturday the 12th of March 2005,

Great call by Bimpson as Englands Mark Epstein scored a TKO Victory at 29 seconds into the 3rd round over highly favored Alan Fenandes of India. We say "Highly favored" because Fenandes has been preparing for this bout for months while Epstein was booked the week of the bout. Epstein stepped in to replace top contender Andrew Kypriano (Who is the current IKF European Champion) when Kypriano went down with Influenza. Congratulations to Mark 'The Beast' Epstein who is now the new IKF Amateur Muay Thai Heavyweight World Champion!

Oudthone Wins IKF Title At
"ROUND KICK RUMBLE"
By IKF Event Representative Terri Storm

IKF Carroll, Iowa, USA
IKF Promoters Pete and Pam Peterson set up a great card of International and Muay Thai fights at the Carroll High School Gym in Carroll Iowa. The card was loaded with a variety of weight classes and experience levels. Great support from the community and other kickboxing camps made the night a huge success.

The main event featured two Junior Girls battling for the vacant IKF Junior Girls IR Bantamweight Central Regional Title between Lauren Herrig of Dubuque, Iowa, USA and Kayla Oudthone (Right) of Jacksonville, Arkansas USA. This was a much anticipated fight and credit has to be given to the fans who stuck it out to the end of a very long night. Oudthone's strategy was to use her legs to intimidate Herrig, but Herrig was not afraid to bridge the gap and fight toe to toe with Oudthone. In the first half of round two, Oudthone landed a spinning backfist to Herrig. In the second half, Herrig tried to advance, but Oudthone waited and was able to repeatedly stop her. In the third round, Herrig began to look tired and by the fourth round, it was all Oudthone as Herrig took an 8 count after a receiving a hard punch. The unanimous decision and vacant IKF Junior Girls IR Bantamweight Central Regional Title went to Kayla Oudthone of Jacksonville, Arkansas USA.

Here are the results of the nights bouts below.

  1. Junior Boys Lightweight IR
    Tien Nguyen
(Team RoundKick) Vs Michael Blake (Team Singto)
These two young juniors opened the show with an exciting match. Blake used kicking and punching combinations while Nguyen preferred to attack the head with punches. Blake landed a solid head punch and later punched Nguyen to the ground for an 8 count. Ngyuen came out fighting hard in the second round, but Blake was able to gain control for the rest of the bout, winning in a unanimous decision.

  2. Light Middleweight MTR
    Tim Gorham
(Team Doyle) Vs Andy Brandl (Team Singto).
The first Muay Thai fight of the night was a match between two experienced fighters. The first round resembled an international rules bout, but the second and thirds rounds proved to be all Muay Thai. In the second round, Gorham landed a roundkick to Brandl's head which seemed to fire up Brandl rather than slow him down. However, Gorham was able to get the upperhand during clenches and the ensuing exchanges. In the third round, Gorham again connected a roundkick to Brandl's head. Although Brandl kept up the fight, wear and tear began to show. The unanimous decision was awarded to Gorham.

  3. Junior Girls Bantamweight IR
    Naomi Ferguson
(Team RoundKick) Vs Kayla Carpenter (Team Singto)
The crowd loved this fight. Two strong fighters provided constant action for this bout. Both were stronger than their size would have you believe, and both could take a hit. Carpenter may have surprised Ferguson in the opening round with her level of intensity, but Ferguson did not wait to respond and match attacks. Ferguson was able to push Carpenter back a couple of times with front kicks, but Carpenter offered strong round kicks to the body. The split decision was given to Carpenter.

  4. Junior Girls Bantamweight IR
    Haley Rothmeyer
(Team RoundKick) Vs Maryann Flury (Team Singto)
This was a repeat match up of the 2004 NAC finals. From the beginning, both young ladies felt the win was theirs. However, Rothmeyer won the first round by staying inside and attacking the head. Flury came out in the second round with greater speed and tried to gain control early, Rothmeyer tried every tactic she had to stop Flury. During the third round, Flury came out again knowing she had to win the round, but Rothmeyer wanted the win too badly and won by unanimous decision. Neither one ever showed signs of being tired or wanting to stop. I would have loved to have had a punch counter on this one.

  5. Exhibition: Boys Super Welterweight Boxing
    Brogan Hardy
(Team RoundKick) Vs Chris Handlos (Team RoundKick)
The first of two exhibition matches of the evening featured boxing. This was rather serious for an exhibition with 8 counts given to prove it. I can't image what a sanctioned bout would be like for these two.

  6. Woman's Middleweight MTR
    Charmaine Tweet
(Team Roufus) Vs Regina English (Team Doyle).
This match up had fighters from two well know Muay Thai camps. From the get go, the clench made the difference in this fight. In round one, the ladies were getting used to each other. In round two English came out strong and Tweet was ready. Tweet was able to use her height advantage, but also was good in the clench landing strong knees to English's body. English had to know she was in for a fight. English ended up with two 8 counts from knees to the abs. In the third round, Tweet stayed on top of English and English again took an 8 count. Tweet got the unanimous decision.

  7. Junior Boys Bantamweight IR
    J.T. Miller
(Team RoundKick) Vs Jaden Veach (Team Singto).
This was a tough fight for J.T. Miller, but he hung in as Jaden Veach demonstrated his boxing skills during the first round. During the second round, Veach was able to provide a flurry of unanswered attacks giving Miller two standing 8 counts. One has to hand it to Miller, however, he came out for the third round with a vengeance. In the end, Veach was awarded the unanimous decision.

  8. Junior Boys Light Heavyweight IR
    Jayme Brower
(Team RoundKick) Vs Austin Thomas (Team Singto).
The fight began with even exchanges between Brower and Thomas. The second round started with Thomas in control, but Brower was able to take the lead. The third round was a repeat of the second with the unanimous decision going to Brower.

  9. Junior Boys Bantamweight IR
    Derek Webber
(Team RoundKick) Vs Luke Lessei (Team Singto)
Two fast fighters met for the 9th bout of the night. Lessei was able to dominate the first round, but Webber was able to keep bringing on the fight. Webber was better able to get inside Lessei during the second round, but Lessei was able to punch and kick more effectively. In the third round, both fighters showed they were in it to win it. In the end, Lessei's ring experience benefited him well as he was given the unanimous decision, but Webber showed he has what it takes.

  10. Middleweight MTR
    Andy Uhlenkamp
(Team RoundKick) Vs Jason Skowl (Team Decatur)
Another exciting Muay Thai match. Skowl showed from the beginning that he wanted to be the aggressor and used strong leg kicks. Uhlenkamp was able to use his height in a clench. Both were able to land knees to the body. Round two began with an exchange of leg kicks followed by all out boxing. It looked like someone was going to be knocked out, but it was anyone's guess at who. During the third round, the battle was on and the blood poured. The unanimous decision was earned by Uhlenkamp.

  11. Junior Girls Middleweight IR
    Allie Oudthone
(Team Prathet) Vs Mariah Betts (Team Singto)
A 2004 NAC champion faced an eager Allie Oudthone looking to improve her record. Oudthone used her height and legs to try and shake Betts's confidence. Betts began the second round with more confidence, but both fighters seemed cautious of each other. In the final round, Betts took early control of the fight challenging Oudthone's ability to regroup. Betts landed several kicks to Oudthone's abs. At the end of the round, Oudthone did regroup with strong kicks and punches that seemed to come out of nowhere. Betts won the split decision.

  12. Cruiserweight MTR
    Kyle Weickhardt
(Team Roufus) Vs Henry Bierman (Team Singto).
Two very powerful fighters met in the 12th bout. In the second round, Weickhardt was accidentally hit in the groin and then impacted by a leg kick that seemed to leave his strength dwindling. Weickhardt ended the round, however, with a left round kick to Bierman's head. Figuring out what works, Weickhardt landed another strong roundkick on Bierman's head and referee Mike Storm began a standing 8 count. Soon it was realized that the kick impacted Bierman too much and the contest was stopped at 1:46 in the third round. Weickhardt was given the win.

  13. Super Middleweight IR
    Dave Muhlbauer
(Team RoundKick) Vs David Gotlich (Team Rising Phoenix)
Muhlbauer began this fight as the aggressor and dominated the first round. In the second, Muhlbauer was able to effectively land both kicks and punches frequently and effectively. In the third round, Gotlich was able to bloody Muhlbauer's nose, Muhlbauer was still giving it everything he had. The unanimous decision went to Muhlbauer.

  14. Exhibition: Junior Girls Welterweight IR
    Ann Graff
(Team RoundKick) Vs Erica Ousley (Team Prathet).
This fight was originally scheduled to be a sanctioned fight between Graff and Ousley. However, due to Ousley weighing in too much above Graff, the fight could not be sanctioned and the respective coaches agreed to an exhibition. Ousley was able to use height and reach to punch Graff's head. Graff was able to handle the hits and fight back. Graff led the second round with an overhand right to Ousley's head. Ousley was able to fight back strong until she lost her contact. The third round of this exhibition was cancelled due to the lost contact.

  15. Super Heavyweight MTR
    Brad Bragg
(Team Decatur) Vs Rafael Czaplicki (Team Roufus)
The fight opened with Czaplicki working the center of Bragg's body. During the second round, Czaplicki worked leg kicks and was able to block Bragg's spinning backfists. Czaplicki was patient in looking for opportunities. In the third round, Bragg was looking to score points and was very committed to his attacks. Bragg tried winning in the clench, but the clenches weren't clean enough to last. At the end of the fight, Bragg landed a spinning backfist to Czaplicki's head. Czaplicki won by split decision.

  16. Super Heavyweight MTR
    Matt Huffman
    Vs Chuck Baxter (Team Singto)
This was the fastest match of the night. Baxter was very powerful and dropped Huffman to the canvas with a punch to the head. Referee Carl Duncan stopped the contest at 57 seconds in the first round.

IKF Amateur World Title
Sees Last Second
Change!

IKF England
IKF promoter Lee Whittington was faced with a drastic change for his event tonight. The scheduled IKF Amateur Muay Thai Heavyweight World title bout between Whittington's fighter Andrew Kypriano of England and Alan Fenandes of India was forced to make a last second change this week. Earlier this week, Kypriano (Who is the current IKF European Champion) went down with Influenza. They hoped he would recover in time for the show, but he has not.

There is no doubt that Whittington has put a lot of money into the show and has paid all the air fares and expenses to bring in the fighter and his trainer from India. Because of this IKF European director Alby Bimpson and Whittington moved quickly to fill the spot within only a couple of days. Bimpson said that Whittington put forward another one of his fighters to fill the slot. WMTO thai boxing champion Mark 'The Beast' Epstein. Epstein weighs 206 lbs. (94kg) and stands 5'9" tall. Although his overall record fell short of being IKF Amateur World Title qualified, Bimpson and Whittington were left with little choice on such short notice.

"This replacement fighter I have seen fight myself and he was of a very good standard although his record of fights may indicate inexperience, I can assure you this is not the case." Said Bimpson. The bout and event takes place tonight in Kent, England. Sorry but no additional press release information was provided by IKF England or Whittington.

It was 12 Rounds for the defense of Nevitt's IKF Light Cruiserweight World Title.

  3. Bryan Koza (Wauconda, IL, Trained by Master Joe Gangi) Vs. Justin Rasner, (Ridott, IL trained by Joel Bowling). These two fighters brought their "A Game" on this night going three rounds to a judge's decision with Bryan Koza being named the winner by Split Decision: 30-27, 29-30, and 29-28.

Mexico Promoter
Perez
Does It Again!

Rizo, Brian, Ponce & Palomera
All Capture IKF Pro Mexico National Titles

IKF Mexico: When IKF Promoter Felix Perez puts on a promotion, it's a SHOW! Along with the always great fights comes the light show and fireworks, or as Felix will tell you, "This is Kickboxing Mexico Style!"

Mexico style proved to be another great night of kickboxing by Perez and his promotional team. Here are the nights results starting with the 4 IKF Pro Mexico National Titles first:

IKF Pro IR Middleweight Mexico National Title *Defense
*Israel Vargas Corpus of Puerto Vallarta, México
Vs
Victor Rizo Lopez of México, D. F.

Back on November 27th, 2004 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico Corpus defeated Rizo Lopez by unanimous decision, 67-66, 67-66 & 68-65 to win this title. However, by the scores, you can see it was a very close bout, so the two were matched-up again. Once again this was a wild slugfest! In the end, the title and belt changed hands as Rizo Lopez (Right) pulled out the win in a majority decision, 68-64, 67-65 and 66-66. Now that each has one one, we all need to see the third...

IKF Pro MTR Light Welterweight Mexico National Title *Defense
*Carlos "Internacional" Brian of México, D. F.
Vs
Adalid "Diamante" Mendieta of Puerto Vallarta, México

Back on November 27th, 2004 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, Brian defeated Mendieta by unanimous decision, 48-46, 49-45 & 49-45. Although Brian dominated the majority of that bout, Mendieta and his trainers wanted a rematch. Once again, this was a great Muay Thai bout. Not only was there some great speed and power, but both fighters fought a great technical bout too. As was in their first meeting, Brian just seemed to get the better of Mendieta. However, if Mendieta could have fought all 5 rounds like he did round 3, he would have won this bout easily. In round 3 Mendieta DOMINATED Brian in all aspects of the round. He ended the round with a solid right hand knockdown of Brian that was scored a flash knockdown as per Muay Thai rules. Brian came back in rounds 4 and 5, proving he was still a Champion and kept his edge on the judges cards. In the end, Brian once again came away with the win and the Title by unanimous decision, 49-46, 49-46 and 48-47.

IKF Pro IR Welterweight Mexico National Title
Rafael "El Veneno" Ponce of Puerto Vallarta, México
Vs
Edgar Balero Rangel of México, D. F.

This was suppose to be a "KICKboxing" bout. However, as each round played out, this was simply a "BOXER" vs a KICKboxer. If we had to guess by what we saw Rangel is not a kickboxer at all. In fact, we even questioned if he had ever trained or fought in a kickboxing bout. He came out strong in round 1 and forced referee Gabrial Renalta to give Ponce a standing 8 count which won Rangel his only round of the scheduled 7 round bout by all three judges. In round 1, we didn't see more than 2 kicks by Rangel. In round 2 he did 1 kick, 0 in round 3, 1 in round 4, 0 in round 5,6 and 7. In the end, two of the judges scored it how they are suppose to, for the KICKboxer, who also won the points. Ponce took the title by majority decision, 68-64, 68-64 and a surprising 66-66... When the decision was announced, Rangel threw a fit in the ring, but our answer was simple to his complaint... "If you want to be a KICKboxer, you have to KICK!"

IKF Pro MTR Welterweight Mexico National Title
Cesar "El Mego" Palomera of Puerto Vallarta, México
Vs
Gerardo Ramirez of México, D. F.

This bout was as close as they get. Back and forth, toe to toe action with each fighter earning their rounds the tough and hard way. In the end, two judges had it as it should have been while one had it questionable. Regardless, they all had it for the new Champion, Palomera who edged out Ramirez in a hard fought battle we would like to see again. Two of the judges scores were 48-47 Palomera while the third had it 50-46 Palomera.

Here are the results of the non title bouts below.
All 4 were Professional International Rules bouts:

  1. Romel Gutierrez of México D.F. defeated Cesar Salcedo of Puerto Vallarta, México by unanimous decision, 49-43 on all 3 judges cards. Salcedo took standing 8 counts in rounds 3 and 4.
  2. Orlando "Gooku" Garcia of Puerto Vallarta, México defeated Edgar Pichardo of México, D.F. by unanimous decision, 49-46, 48-47 & 48-47.
  3. Gregorio "Dragoncito" Gabriel of Puerto Vallarta, México defeated Francisco "Frankie" Ramos of México, D.F. by unanimous decision 50-45 on all 3 judges cards.
  4. Erick Mejia Cano of México, D. F. defeated Sergio Castro of Puerto Vallarta, México by Knockout when Cano landed a solid, straight left to Castro's jaw which dropped him to the canvas. Castro never stood up and the bout was called at 1:20 of round 1.

Once again we would like to thank IKF Promoter Felix Perez and his associates for their hospitality and of course, their outstanding work in organizing another great IKF Mexico event.

v

Smith & Walters Setting Records
For IKF East Coast Classic
Amateur Kickboxing Tournament

IKF Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA:
While other IKF Sanctioned events this weekend will have plenty of IKF Title excitement, none of them will have what IKF Promoters Craig Smith (Left) and Clark Walters (No photo on file) will have...

OVER 100 Fighters!

Smith and Walters are setting new records for this weekends event, their IKF East Coast Classic. Its looking to be the largest kickboxing event in the Country besides the IKF NAC. As of 5:40 PM, EST, they still have "106" registered fighters with another 5-10 more expected at weigh-ins. This years event seems to be at a larger scale than even last years event.

Some fighters to watch who will be in attendance include, Michael Holcomb, Roger Belch, Ben Russel, The Scoggins Brothers, Mike Decker, Evan Thompson, Tony Thompson, Becky Holloran, Lori Burney, Jenna Droluk, Terri Hicks, David Cynar (son of D-Man), Umar Hak, Travis Qualls, Chris Barrineau, Damien Hatcher, Steve Mann, Kent Eanes, Mike Harris, Charles Baines and Rafael Bayona. These are all current IKF National and or IKF NAC Champions.

Some of these names are high profile such as the Thompson's. As usual this event will not be short of any Kickboxing celebrities. Those in attendance at ringside will include Nicole Hess, Mark Selbee, Joe Lewis, Ronnie Copeland, Randy Pogue, Eric Easter, Ray Thompson, Steven Thompson, Mike Hess, Maria Hess (the best of the Hess's), the list goes on and on. Not only will there be great amateur fighters in the ring, but this event is also a virtual "Who's Who" of Kickboxing. And lets not forget Playboy Playmate, Stephanie Glasson who has become a big fan of the sport over the last year.

Along with all these stars will be "The Star" of kickboxing, Joe Lewis (Right). Lewis will be having a Fighters Seminar Friday night, March 4th at the Surfside Inn which is the location of the East Coast Classic. The seminar will start at 7:PM in the Ballroom of the Inn. Fees are only $20.00 per person. This will be taking place while the physicals and weigh-ins are taking part.

"This is one of those events I will truly miss not being able to attend." Said IKF President Steve Fossum. "Craig, Clark and their dynamic staff have done an outstanding job along with the assistance of Pro World Champion Ronnie Copeland who handled the Registered Fighters Page. When all these individuals get together, the TEAMWORK will make this event even more outstanding!"

Smith hopes that next year he can bring in others such as IKF Head of Officials, Dan Stell, IKF World Ambassador Brooks Mason and Fossum too and a few others that hope to attend the event. Ring Girls this year are Craig Smith's own personal training clients. As for this year, if you are near Virginia this weekend, you won't want to miss the East Coast Classic in Virginia Beach, Virginia!
