MORE REGIONALS?
There is a possibility of other regionals to be added, however, they must be confirmed by Friday, March 3rd.

BY-PASSING A REGIONAL...
If for some reason you cannot attend the your Regional tournament (other commitments, injury, too far away, just don't want to, etc.) but still want to go to the World Classic, it will cost you a hefty regional bypass fee of $75.00 this year on top of your World Classic registration fee of $55.00. To do this, you will register for a Regional Waiver by clicking HERE. The total fees it will cost you to bypass your regional will be the $75 bypass fee and $55 to register for the IKF Finals. A total of $130.00.

Remember, those who register at a Regional Seeding Tournament will be seeded higher than those who do not. So, if you don't have a Regional in your area, you can always travel to compete in one near you.

NO REGIONAL NEAR YOU
Those who do not have the support of a Regional Seeding Tournament Promoter in their region may register directly for the World Classic Tournament as a "Walkover" by clicking HERE.

NO REGIONAL BUT WANT HIGHER SEEDING
For those who do not have a regional near them, but they want to register for a regional event near them to be assured a higher seeding at the World Classic Tournament, this is allowed. You can register to fight at the nearest or most convenient Regional Seeding Tournament for you. To do so, please go to the IKF supported web pages of each regional (Found above or on the Events page) of your choice and register as a fighter for that regional. Please make sure to mark on the TOP of your registration form: "NOT LIVING IN REGION - REQUEST TO PARTICIPATE"

Fowler Slips Past Droluk
To Claim First IKF Amateur Woman's WORLD Title!
Ash Defeats Garlitts to Claim His Gold!

IKF Fairfield, California, USA
Once again LTD Productions hosted another night of exciting IKF Kickboxing in Fairfield. With 12 bouts on the card, the nights crowd was in for plenty of explosive action. Let's begin with the Main event!

This is meant in no disrespect to either fighter but it needs to be said. If you witnessed Jennifer Fowler of San Jose, California, USA, fight Jenna Droluk of Collegeville, Pennsylvania, USA fight at last years IKF North American Classic Tournament, you would have agreed that the fight at the Tournament was much more exciting than their meeting last night. For whatever reason, we didn't see the quick "Snapping" punches and kicks we saw these two throw at the NAC Tournament in Orlando, Florida. Maybe they were both tired, or maybe too cautious, who knows. Droluk's plane was delayed and she didn't arrive in California until close to 11:PM Friday night. Being a 3 hour time difference, she should have arrived Thursday night but it was not clear who made the Friday arrival decision.

Could there have been some jet-lag? Maybe so, but who really knows. With the time difference, Droluk faced Fowler on Fowler's time clock. To Droluk, it was about midnight on her East Coast clock by the time of the opening bell. But this really had nothing to do with the outcome. BOTH were there to fight and we doubt either even looked at the clock the whole night. So there were NO EXCUSES! This was a WORLD TITLE! There is NO ROOM for excuses!

  • IKF Amateur Woman's Full Contact Rules Middleweight World Title

    1. ROUND 1
Be it respect for each other or what ever, both came out cautious in round 1, but threw up plenty of kicks. Fowler with 17 to Droluk's 14. However, the kicks were not strong and hard as we had seen in Florida at the NAC Tournament last year. They were just, well, kicks... After round 1, All three judges had Droluk up 10-9.

    2. ROUND 2
In round 2, Fowler kept up her kick count with 14 while Droluk dropped to 10, but went more with hand combinations. Fowler stayed with her game plan. Kicks and punches, kicks and punches and keep moving forward. Two of the three judges saw the hands of Droluk add the difference and gave the round to Droluk 10-9 while the third gave Fowler's kicks more credit, giving her the round 10-9.

    3. ROUND 3
In round 3 Fowler kept to her game plan, staying busy with her kicks, out-kicking Droluk 2-1 overall. However Droluk started kicking less and less, and relying more on her boxing skills hoping it would make the difference. At the end of the third the consistency of Fowler begin to take notice to the judges. Two of the three judges gave the round to Fowler and only 1 gave it to Droluk.

    4. ROUND 4
Round 4 was not a good round for Droluk. She barley made her 6 kicks to Fowler's 12 and once again, Fowler was still staying with her game plan, equal kicks to equal punches. Never once in the entire bout did either have the other in trouble and although we were not the one in the heat of battle in the ring (Which is easy for any writer to say), we never felt that either fighter hurt the other with any of their punches or kicks. Although Droluk tried to be more effective with her hands, the judges just didn't see enough of her punches landing to give her the round. All three judges gave round 4 to Fowler.

    5. ROUND 3
As round 5 started we were at 39-37 Droluk, 38-38 and 39-37 Fowler. In other words, the title was still in both fighter's reach, and round 5 would make the final decision. This is the round where we saw Droluk fade, especially in the kicking department. Droluk only threw 8 counted kicks and none had any "Heat" on them. Although Fowler's didn't have a lot of "Heat" on her's either, she scored points with her "19" kicks in the final round. The kicks seemed to impress two of the three judges more as they gave the round to Fowler, 10-9. However judge Butch Stell couldn't split them in his mind as he scored them both 10-10.
  • In the end, the vacant IKF Amateur Woman's Full Contact Rules Middleweight World Title went to 2005 IKF North American Classic Tournament Champion, Jennifer Fowler by split decision. Judge Butch Stell had it 49-46 Droluk. Judge Susan Thomas had it 48-47 Fowler and judge Allen Reyes had it 49-46 Fowler.
Fowler stays undefeated at 6-0 while Droluk drops to 17-4. Fowler also makes IKF History this night in being the first ever "Amateur" IKF Woman's World Champion! Congratulations Jennifer! We may see these two meet up again in the future and if so, we're sure it will once again be a close bout. Who knows, they may both meet up in Iowa this July at the IKF World Classic. Let's hope so!

IKF Amateur Muay Thai Super Lightweight California Title.
The other Title bout of the night was probably one of, if not the best bout of the night. However, with so many great bouts, it wouldn't be possible to even give this award. Dan Ash of San Jose, California, USA took his undefeated 5-0 record to the ring against Travis Garlits of Pacoima, California, USA. Both had great experience in their coaching staff. Ash trained by 2 time IKF National Champion Derek "TNT" Yuen and Travis Garlits, by 7 time Pro world Champion Peter "Sugarfoot" Cunningham.

This would be for the vacant IKF Amateur Muay Thai Super Lightweight California Title. The judges had Ash winning rounds 1 & 2 10-9 while in round 3, judge Butch Stell broke away and gave the round to Garlitts 10-9. In the final deciding round 4, Garlits would need a KO to win or an impressive round with 2 knockdowns. However, it would not be. Ash won two of the judges scorecards 10-9 while judge Allen Reyes liked what he saw in Garlits, giving the round to him 10-9.

Ash would take the title home by unanimous decision 40-36, 39-37 & 39-37 and be the new IKF Amateur Muay Thai Super Lightweight California Title.

THIS WEEKENDS IKF EVENTS

Droluk & Fowler
Go For The ULTIMATE IKF Gold!
Ash & Garlitts Also Seek The Gold!

Tomorrow night, February 25th, two of the best Woman Kickboxers will make history as they become the FIRST two women EVER to fight for an IKF Woman's Amateur World Title.

LTD Productions and Channel Lumber will present, "Fairfield Fight Fest" at the Allen Witt Sports Center in Fairfield, California, USA.

The nights Main Event will feature 2005 IKF North American Champion Jennifer Fowler of California, USA (5-0/1) vs 2003 & 2004 IKF FCR North American and 2003 IKF USA Champion, Jenna Droluk of Pennsylvania, USA (17-3/2) as they fight for the vacant IKF Amateur FCR Woman's Middleweight WORLD TITLE!

This will be a rematch of their dynamic meeting at last years 2005 IKF North American Tournament in Orlando Florida. In that bout, these two had to go to a 4th overtime round to determine the Champion. After 3, the scores were 30-27 Droluk, 29-28 Fowler and 29-29 for a split decision draw. In the overtime round, Fowler won the 2005 North American title by unanimous decision.

Droluk has a lot of history with the IKF and with it, has taken home more IKF Gold than most Men. Her first introduction into the IKF was at the 2003 IKF/TKO USA National Amateur Tournament in Davenport, Iowa. There Droluk fought as a number 4 seed to win the title over Bobbie Brown of Lawrenceville, Georgia by TKO at 1:56 of round 2.

Later in 2003 in November at the 2003 IKF North American Tournament in Greenville, South Carolina, Droluk defeated Terrie Hicks of Augusta, Georgia, USA (8-5/4) by split decision, 49-46, 46-49 & 47-49 to win the IKF Tournament title.

A year later at the 2004 IKF/TKO North American Tournament in Cedar Rapids Iowa, Droluk defeated Jennifer Thyssen of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, (23-4-1/0) by unanimous decision 29-27, 30-26 & 30-26 to win the North American title again.

The night will also feature the quest for the vacant IKF Amateur MTR Super Lightweight California Title between number 5 IKF Ranked Dan Ash (3-0) of San Jose, California, USA trained by former multi time IKF Champion Derek Yuen, and Travis Garlits (4-2) of Los Angeles, California and trained by former Kickboxing World Champion Peter Cunningham.

Gladiators Mark
Ten Years In Milwaukee

Fan Support Honored With Huge Show February 24th

Friday, February 17, 2006, Milwaukee, WI USA
Gladiators February Show Celebrates Ten Years in Milwaukee
The Gladiators Fighting Series will mark it's ten year anniversary of producing Kickboxing & Mixed Martial Arts events in Milwaukee, (WI) with a special show "X - A Decade in the Making," Friday, February 24, 2006 in the Ramada Convention Center Grand Ballroom, 6401 South 13th Street, Milwaukee. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. with an "Awesome Amateurs" undercard, the main card starts at 8:00 p.m.

When Duke Roufus began promoting shows in 1996 he had a good feeling that Milwaukee was home to a good base of fans that would support the higher end type of shows he wanted to offer. Roufus remembers the moment he knew, "I fought my first fight here in Milwaukee on July 20, 1989. I knew then that the people here in Milwaukee were loyal and appreciative fans of Kickboxing."

Roufus went on to fight in Milwaukee 11 times with an undefeated record of 11-0. During that span he won the IKF Pro MTR World Title and a North American Title fighting in his hometown.

On June 3, 1993 he won the WKA North American Championship versus Missouri's Zinnie Reynolds, on December 4, 1998 he won the IKF Pro MTR World Heavyweight Championship versus New Zealand's Hiriwa Te Ringi, then defended the IKF World Title on May 19, 1999 against Australia's Grant Barker. (Left).

In his last three Milwaukee outings Roufus fought K-1 fighters Dewey Cooper of Las Vegas, (NV), IKF Mexican Champion Pedro Fernandez and Croatia's 4-Time World Champion Sinisa Andrijesivic, with five of his eleven fights being part of Gladiators Fighting Series.

"This sport has taken me all over the world from my humble home in Milwaukee. I love fight sports very much. I am happy to help build combat sports here in Milwaukee," Roufus proudly said. He continued, "I have fought on every continent except Africa and Antarctica, but for me there was no better Colosseum then the ones we built here! I watched the excitement that overseas fans had and I knew I had to help make this sport grow here."

Ten years later his hunch has proven correct. The fans support is tremendous with people coming from all parts of Wisconsin, the midwest and beyond. Top fighters have travelled from across the world to fight in Milwaukee and many others have gone on to fight in K-1, Kickboxing's most prestigious fighting circuit. In short, the fans and fighters have made Milwaukee America's Kickboxing hotbed, with title of Mixed Martial Arts mecca close to being added very soon.

In Milwaukee, the Gladiators Fighting Series played host to the 2002 Las Vegas K-1 Qualifying 8-Man Tournament, which the winner of advanced to the K-1 finals in the Tokyo Dome. Gladiators fighters have gone on to fight at Bangkok's famed Rajadamnern Stadium and in the UFC's Octagon. Milwaukee has played host to fighters from all over the USA, Australia, Belarus, Canada, Croatia, Mexico, New Zealand, Thailand, the United Kingdom and Yugoslavia.

Kickboxing and Mixed Martial Arts is where it's at today as evidenced by the wild success of the Ultimate Fighting Championship's reality series "The Ultimate Fighter" and subsequent broadcast of their live events on SpikeTV, K-1 Kickboxing on ESPN and Pride Fighting Championships rebroadcast on Fox SportsNet. Heading into 2006, these exciting "ringsports of the future" are collecting new fans in droves as their popularity grows exponentially.

Over 15 bouts are planned for "X- A Decade in the Making" and will feature MMA Heavyweight Champ Ben "Berzerker" Rothwell, Kenosha (WI) and Milwaukee's former UFC fighter and local legend Adrian Serrano, along with a host of hungary fighters from coast-to-coast looking to make a name for themselves in the fight game. The Las Vegas style grand ballroom show offers fans a night of non-stop Kickboxing & MMA action they will not soon forget. This is full-throttle fighting at it's best.

Tickets: $25.00 Reserved Theater seats are available and can be reserved by calling (414) 967-7767. Tickets may also be purchased at the Duke Roufus Kickboxing, Mixed Martial Arts & Boxing Academy, 111 West Virginia Street in Milwaukee. Please call (414) 967-7767 or visit www.dukeroufusgym.com for academy hours.

"X - A Decade in the Making" will be available on DVD ($20.00 + S/H) and may be ordered by calling (414) 967-7767. VISA and Mastercard are accepted for all event ticket and DVD purchases.

"X - A Decade in the Making" is presented by Kyle Monreal Painting, WLUM 102.1 FM and Shepherd-Express.com with additional sponsorship from ABC - A Branovan Company, All Construction, Branded Steer Restaurant, Combat Sports International, Curtis Universal Ambulance, Cush Lounge, Duke Roufus Kickboxing, Mixed Martial Arts & Boxing Academy, Euro Cafe' Bar, Joey Buona's Pizzaria & Grill, MilwaukeeNights.com, On The Border, ProKarateWeekly.com, Share Chemical Corporation, Phil Repetti/Bill Anderson/Jordan Chiropractic, Attorney Martin Stein, Sunbusters, Tendercar, Rick Winter DDS/Hampton Dental, Windy Muaythai Equipment and World Fight Warehouse.

What "REALLY" Happened To Tonights
IKF MAIN EVENT
In Milwaukee, Wisconsin...
Fulton Vs Barry?

Travis Fulton, of Waterloo, Iowa pulled out of tonights MAIN EVENT bout against Patrick Barry, (13-1-1) of New Orleans, LA. Fulton claimed to Promoter Duke Roufus that he had to be in Court Today.

However, the reality of this was that Fulton took a Pro Boxing bout in at the Tachi Palace Casino & Hotel in Lemoore, California last night. In the bout, Fulton was dropped twice by Pro Boxer Travis Walker (15-0-1 with 13 KO's) and eventually lost by TKO at 1:54 of round 2.

The TKO of course would have taken him out of tonight's bout, but lets call it what it REALLY is! Fulton "SCREWED" the Fight Fans, Promoter Duke Roufus and his opponent, Patrick Barry, out of tonights Main event Fight, and this will be remembered for a LONG TIME!

Fulton has been training with Russ O'Connell in Iowa for his kickboxing and MMA bouts. However he has Corky Halverson listed as his Boxing trainer and his Boxing Manager as Chad Bergmeier. Fulton has as a Pro boxing record of 14-14.

Fulton has been placed on a 60 day fight suspension by the IKF and will be fined for contracting a Pro Boxing bout inside 45 days prior to a contracted IKF Pro Kickboxing bout on this event. The fine has yet to be determined but it will be based upon Barry's fight purse, refunded Ticket sales and promotional fees for the Main Event bout.

More on this as it develops.

The appointment was made last night by IKF President Steve Fossum. Today, IKF European Director Alby Bimpson informed Isaac of his appointment as the new IKF Representative of India. Bimpson has been working with Isaac for some time now through IKF Europe and he gives great praise to him.

Assisting with Isaac's decision to join forces with the IKF was the establishment of the IKF World Classic Amateur Kickboxing Tournament. There are several countries in Asia and Europe looking to get more involved with the IKF now that they have opened up their IKF Amateur Tournament (One of, if not 'The Largest - Kickboxing Only -FCR, MTR, IR- " Tournaments in the World) to the rest of the world.

"We have not worked much in building IKF Europe for the last 3 years." Said IKF President Steve Fossum. "We have been too busy building IKF North America. However, we plan a major expansion over the next year as we build up the IKF in other parts of Europe along with Asia, South America, Africa and South America."

In addition, the sister organization of the IKF for Mixed Martial Arts, the ISCF (International Sport Combat Federation) is currently in discussions about having Isaac head the India division of the ISCF. The ISCF, like the IKF, sanctions MMA events worldwide. Isaac works with K1 Japan for MMA fighters and kickboxers to be promoted in Japan. Later this year one of his best welterweight and heavyweight fighters will compete at the K1 Heros show in Japan.

Isaac would like to express his thanks to IKF World President Steve Fossum for his new appointment. The IKF India office will begin its operations by hosting an 8 man tournament with fighters in the welterweight, cruiserweight and heavyweight divisions later this year. For more details contact wasa@rediffmail.com They will also be bringing a full team to the IKF World Classic Amateur Kickboxing Tournament in July.

When Perception Hides Reality

Things in our sport are happening all the time. Some good, some bad. Still, there are some things that give off the "Perception" of being the greatest thing around when in fact, there is more behind it than many might see. In a discussion about such things, someone offered us this little story, that we thought some of you may enjoy.

"The Thread in Our Lives"
A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package. "What food might this contain?" The mouse wondered - he was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap.
Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning. "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!" The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, "Mr. Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it."
The mouse turned to the pig and told him, "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!" The pig sympathized, but said, "I am so very sorry, Mr. Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. Be assured, you are in my prayers."
The mouse turned to the cow and said "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!" The cow said, "Wow, Mr. Mouse. I'm sorry for you, but it's no skin off my nose."

So, the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer's mousetrap alone. That very night a sound was heard throughout the house -- like the sound of mousetrap catching its prey. The farmer's wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not see it was a venomous snake whose tail the trap had caught. The snake bit the farmer's wife. The farmer rushed her to the hospital, and she returned home with a fever.

Everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup's main ingredient. But his wife's sickness continued, so friends and neighbors came to sit with the farmer around the clock. To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig.
The farmer's wife did not get well; she died. So many people came for her funeral, the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them.
The mouse looked upon it all from his crack in the wall with great sadness.

So, the next time you hear someone is facing a problem and think it doesn't concern you, remember -- when one of us is threatened, we are all at risk. We are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep an eye out for one another and our Sport, and make an extra effort to encourage one another.

REMEMBER: EACH OF US IS A VITAL THREAD IN ANOTHER PERSONS TAPESTRY; OUR LIVES ARE WOVEN TOGETHER FOR A REASON.

New Promoter John Castillo
Decides To Cancel Show
After Unethical Actions Of Others

New IKF and ISCF Promoter John Castillo of Illinois found out the hard way how corrupt the Promoting business can be when competing with those who "Do things their own way, and don't follow the rules of the game." He now knows that there is rarely a "Good Buddy" system among Promoters, especially those in the same town as him.

You guys know who you are, and soon enough, the World will know. However, for now, due to legal reasons, we will continue our investigation into the unethical acts of another Moline Illinois Promoter and some of his related associates in Illinois and Iowa that forced an IKF and ISCF Promoter to put a stop to his event. Those in question will soon be forced to share their reasons in court as a lawsuit is inevitable here. The lawsuit could also be tied into the Illinois Boxing Commission for making unregulated demands on a Promoter where they had no jurisdiction.

Seems these individuals, who simply did not want the competition of Castillo, told several fighters "If you fight on Castillo's event, you will never fight for me and other promoters again!" From the outcome, their threats worked since Castillo lost 2/3rds of his fight card the week leading to his event. But that's not all. This event could have still went forward with 5 or 6 fights. What else happened is beyond legal and ethical standards.

These guys went on to contact the Illinois Boxing Commission and "Bad Mouthed" Castillo and his event to them. What made things bad for the Illinois Boxing Commission is that they contacted Castillo last week and forced several regulations upon him. However, the Illinois Boxing Commission has "NO" Legal Jurisdiction over MMA or Kickboxing.

Four calls by us here at the ISCF and IKF were made to Rafeal Carro (spelling ?) on Friday to ask him to explain why he was personally placing regulations on an event he had no jurisdiction over. However, no calls were returned until today which was made at 7 AM Pacific time to our message machine. The call was returned to him 3 times today and all we received was an answer machine for the State of Illinois Boxing Commission.

Attorney's for the IKF & ISCF have been contacted and informed of the situation and they have made it clear that the State's interaction in this matter is highly illegal and could bring Federal Penalties for the State regulating a sport they have no jurisdiction over. Adding more insult to injury, Carro went a step further and informed the venue where the event was scheduled to take place (Moline Community Center, Moline, Illinois, USA) that they would lose their liquor license if the event went forward without their approval. This was also past on by local law enforcement who again, had "NO" jurisdiction or regulatory authority over MMA or Kickboxing in the State of Illinois. They threatened Castillo that if the event went on without them getting a direct approval from the Illinois Boxing Commission that they would show up and close it down.

Castillo had "EVERYTHING" in order, unlike the Promoters who went on the warpath against him. These other promoters are currently under investigation for not having Fighter Medical Insurance and also having Pro fighters fight Amateurs. Neither Promoter in question has ever Sanctioned ANY of their events, yet they went after Castillo, even though he was "Doing it RIGHT!"

Castillo had all his sanctioning fees paid, the TOP IKF and ISCF Officials scheduled to attend his event as event officials. He had a medical doctor, of which these other Promoters "Rarely" have. He had paramedics scheduled to be at ringside as well. Still, the State insisted on an approval of the venue from the local fire department which should have been no problem.

By days end Friday, the reality of all this was that Rafeal Carro of the Illinois Boxing Commission simply left Castillo hanging. He would not return any of our calls or Castillo's and could not be found to either confirm or deny the event he threatened to shut down. Due to this, no one had any guarantee that the local law enforcement agencies would not show up and close the doors down. With this as the case, Castillo made the decision to cancel the event, which was supported by us here at the IKF and ISCF. He choose to do this rather than risking more money lost.

Still, he is out thousands of dollars in not only spent money but lost potential income, not to mention the damage those involved did to his reputation. The losses will be charged to those involved in destroying his event which will include those who attacked him and very possibly, the Illinois State Boxing Commission who appear to have, "Doing a pale a favor" by placing unregulated restrictions and demands on Castillo. All involved thought they could show their power, while in the end, they will surly be showing their wallets instead.

More on this as it develops.

Campbell of Long Island, New York has a Pro Kickboxing record of 11-4-1 and an amateur kickboxing record of 16-5. He fought for the IKF World title twice. The first ending in a draw back on September 27th, 2005 and in a rematch on January 20th, 2006 in Crystal Lake, Illinois, he lost to Champion Tommy Bach of Buffalo Grove, Illinois by unanimous decision, 115-113, 116-112 and 116-113. there has been talk of these guys fighting again but no date has been set yet.

He won his IKF title on May 11, 2002 in Crystal Lake, Illinois when he defeated Dan Siewerth of Chicago, Illinois, USA by TKO in round 3.

Cormack caught Campbell in the first round, putting Campbell down. But the ever determined and strong willed Campbell got off the canvas and immediately began firing back but still lost the round 10-8 on the judges cards.

Although Cormack won round 1, 10-8, Campbell came on strong from there on out. He won rounds, 2, 3, and 4 on all three judges scorecards which brought him the win by unanimous decision, 38-37, 38-37, 38-37. Congratulations, Bobby on your first pro boxing win and better luck to Devon in his next match-up.

Gonzales Keeps His Promise...
Wins By TKO Over Smith!

Triple F Kickboxing - February 3rd, Sacramento, Radisson Hotel!

AK Promotions
What does it take to know what the future holds? Is it just a feeling one gets or instinct? Maybe its only a lucky guess...? Whatever the reasons that some predictions come true perhaps Christian Gonzales of San Francisco has a clue. In an earlier interview with Gonzales, he stated that he did not agree with the first decision between he and Nathan Smith of Modesto, CA in their initial meeting but this time around "I will not leave it to the judges" and boy was he right!

Everyone in the sold out Radisson Ballroom knew there was something big about to happen as Smith and Gonzales entered the ring. The noise made by both teams was deafening! As the bell sounded for the start of round one...there was no feel out game here. They had good back and forth action, landing great kicks and punches to the body and head! Smith was very affective with his front kick to the chest of Gonzales but Gonzales seemed to shrug it off and continued to be the aggressor while finishing his hand combination with hard round kicks to the head of Smith! Smith's solid defense blocked most of them early on! The crowd reacted loudly to each impressive pop of Gonzales' instep and shin as they nearly missed the target and landed hard on the gloves of Smith!

Round two and three would be much of the same. Smith landed a hard round kick to the thigh of Gonzales, followed by a strong cross that clearly stunned Gonzales momentarily! Then there was a pause... something looked familiar to this onlooker! It was that same look seen in the Crandle Vs Gonzales match months earlier! In that fight, Gonzales was hurt in the first round and took a standing eight only to come back in the second round to TKO Crandle! Again, Gonzales seemed to be going into another zone! If he were a cat, his eyes would have changed colors as he tilted his chin into his chest and gazed in towards the target like a heat seeking missile! It was like he became "The One" as Keanu Reeves did in the movie The Matrix! Almost everything Smith threw from that point was blocked and, or slipped and then countered with an impressive round kick to the head and body! Seek and destroy became Gonzales' mission as he walked down and sometimes threw down Smith as to say I'm invincible...HEAR ME ROAR! Gonzales then wrapped his hands around the neck of Smith and started a series of knees to the body! The crowd was going wild with excitement as the battle pursued at center stage! One of Gonzales' knees connected hard to the body of Smith and one may have accidentally caught him in the face but for sure the punch or kick that followed put Smith down for an eight count! At the end of the eight count, Smith intentionally spit out his mouth piece to buy more time and was penalized one point by Referee Dan Stell. He was clearly dazed by the assault of kicks and punches from Gonzales!

Smith was definitely not willing to quit and was throwing his own brand of outstanding combinations throughout the fight and looked impressive! Some of his techniques were landing clean but Gonzales would not go for it and continued his onslaught! The fourth and final round was here and the audience applauded loudly with approval of this great fight they were witnessing and were happy that they were going to have a chance to see yet another round of great action! It has been said often, 'never slug with a slugger'! As mentioned in a previous article regarding this fight, Gonzales has some of the most talented boxing skills in the amateur ranks of Muay Thai and will always be of great danger to anyone who tries to test him as Nathan did in the fourth round!

In the midst of a fury of battle, both men began to land some bombs with kicks and punches and an occasional knee! Then it came... about an eight punch exchange (or should we say "bomb" exchanges) where both men landed some shots but in the end it would be Gonzales' power and accurate jabs, crosses and a huge left hook sent Smith flying into the ropes defenseless and would end the night for Smith! Referee Dan Stell had to jump quickly to put a stop to the punishment before the very dazed Smith was hurt even more! Gonzales look as though he was ready for four more rounds as he was coming in to add the final touches before the stoppage!

The crowd came to their feet to show their satisfaction for what they'd witnessed...a great fight between two great fighters!

After the fight, Gonzales toured the ballroom with new belt and four foot trophy in hand only to be mobbed by the fans wanting to simply shake the new champ's hand or get a photo op! Its clear they want to see more of Gonzales...sooner rather than later. Sounds like a superstar in the makings! If smiles were worth a million dollars, we would all be rich because the huge smile Gonzales wore on this night was simply - priceless!

Nathan Smith must now decide whether he wants to move forward with his plans to turn pro or hang out in the amateurs to see what else is left for him. He is a very talented fighter and will defeat most Welter and Super Welterweights on the planet. However, on this night, he fell a little short but I'm sure we will be seeing more of him in future events!

Ironically, AKP caught up with Gonzales' trainer Jongsanan Fairtex to compliment him on his boxing skills and how well his fighter did. Jongsonan reply was more like...".he looked ok but he slapped a little with some of his punches." ...What? So, if this is an indication that he is going to continue to work on making him even better- world beware! We are not sure whether Gonzales plans to continue to make predictions on the outcome of his fights but we do know that he plans are to continue his quest to obtain an IKF amateur world title by the end of the year and soon after turn pro! If he continues to impress everyone and win fights as big as he won this one, it will be no doubt those in attendance last night saw the seedlings of at least a future amateur world champion!

The AKP Staff would like to give Special Thanks for all of the Gyms that participated. It is only for because of their support that these events are successful! Also special thanks to AKP assistant Mr. Rick Cronin for keeping the fighters gloved and getting them to the ring in a timely fashion. Kelly KO'S Croushorn In The 9th
To Capture IKF Pro FCR US Super Lightweight Title
Kansas City's Battle Star XXVI

IKF Representative Chuck Wolfe, Ameristar Casino, Kansas City, Missouri, USA:
DANGERFIRE PROMOTIONS Co-Promotors Craig "KidFire" Cummings and "Dangerous" Damon Reed once again brought action and excitement to the fightworld! The seven pro boxing bouts held much promise due to the caliber of opponents matched! And, to no surprise, the highlight of the evening was the outstanding performance by the Main Event world-class Kickboxers, Mike Kelly (Peculiar, MO) and Dillon Croushorn (St Louis, MO)!

The Main Event, scheduled for ten rounds, went a multi-faceted nine ~ ending with Kelly's awesome combination of a straight left to the solar plexus, followed by a searing left leg round to the head, ending with a flurry of punches! Croushorn fell to the canvas, forcing Referee Kevin Champion to count him out! The last round was set up expertly throughout the bout by Kelly! Always a technician in his fights, Kelly brought his vast universal fight experience into the ring. Kelly's previous bouts have been largely in the USA and Europe, garnering him opportunities to sharpen his tools with a variety of fighters.

  1. The first round had Kelly landing 11 to Crushhorn's 14 Kicks! This started the fight on what appeared to be an even keel, with two Judges giving it to Kelly (10-9) and one to Crushhorn (10-9).
  2. The second round also proved Croushorn to be the more aggressive kicker matching his 15 kicks to Kelly's 9! What Kelly lacked in aggressive kicks, he more than made up for landing two strong right hand counters as the round ended, giving the round unanimously to Kelly (10-9).
  3. As the fighters stepped out for the third round, Kelly stepped up the pace and Croushorn continued to land kicks (12 to Kelly's 10). Kelly combined his kicks with three solid right counters and one beautiful left hook, connecting squarely with Croushorn's head! Again, a unanimous round for Kelly (10-9)!
  4. The fourth round was much the same; however, as Croushorn began his fade, Kelly only grew stronger! Kelly had round four (10-9 all judges).
  5. The fifth round saw the fighters come out in a feverish pitch! Kelly landed a dropping blow to Croushorn, earning him a 10-8 victory round.
  6. More than half way thru the fight, Croushorn was feeling the result of the previous round with Kelly dominating with clean left/rights to the head! Kelly 10-9 again!
  7. The seventh round saw Croushorn continuing to fade and Kelly continuing to gain strength and momentum, throwing an awesome front kick straight into Crushhorn's face, drawing first blood! The crowd was going wild! Kelly 10-9!
  8. As the fighters approached the eighth round, Kelly amazingly picked up his kicking pace, landing 14 sharp kicks to Croushorn's 10; but at 1:34 into the round Kelly landed what appeared to be an accidental low blow, causing a badly needed 3-minute rest period for Croushorn. Croushorn returned with a vengeance, jumping all over Kelly in the corner, ending the round his strongest - and finally earning a round (10-9 by all judges).
  9. Into the ninth (and ultimately final) round, Kelly started landing much stronger kicks! At :30 into the round Kelly landed a straight left hand directly into Croushorn's solar plexus, followed by the stunning head kick and punch combinations! The exciting end of the round introduced Mike Kelly, as the new IKF United States Super Lightweight Kickboxing Champion ! Congratulations to both warriors!

Saying Good Bye To The
GREAT ONE!

Grand Master Carlson Gracie
Leaves Us At 72

Carlson Gracie Sr. - 1932 - 2006

Today, February 1st, 2006, the world of Martial Arts lost a Great Man. Master Carlson Gracie passed away today in Chicago. No doubt the Jiu-Jitsu community will mourn his loss but ALL of us connected in so many ways with the Martial Arts through Mixed Martial Arts will mourn the passing of this great man as well. His name will always be remembered in Martial arts history.

The Jiu-Jitsu Grandmaster was in Chicago, USA. According to his son Carlson Jr, Carlson had been known to have suffered from diabetes was hospitalized for kidney stones and was doing well: 'He was cracking jokes last night and everything seemed ok. This morning he had a fatal attack and succumbed!'

His best friend, Oswaldo Paquetá, confirmed his death this morning. The cause was not yet totally cleared up by doctors. His body will be sent to Brazil for burial.

Carlson Gracie Sr. was a practitioner of the Brazilian martial art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He learned the art from his father Carlos Gracie, co-founder of the system with his brother Helio Gracie. He fought many grappling and Mixed Martial Arts matches and was the author of a book on the subject, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: For Experts Only.

He was born on August 13, 1935 in Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He become one of the most prolific fighters in the history of the Gracie family and is considered by some to be the best mixed martial artist of his era. At the time of his death he was a 9th degree black belt and referred to as Grandmaster.

Carlson entered the ring at the young age of 17 to defend the honor of his family and the family name. Santana Valdemar (sometimes referred to as Adema Santa) was a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighter, famous for defeating his former master Hélio Gracie on May 24, 1957, in a record-breaking 3 hours, 45 minutes long match. Valdemar had fought for the Gracie academy for many years but had a falling out with Hélio Gracie. Hélio Gracie and Santana decided to settle their differences on a Vale-tudo (no holds barred) match. After nearly 4 hours of combat, Santana struck Hélio with a kick to the head. Hélio passed out from the blow and Santana was awarded the victory by TKO.

Carlson took revenge for his family and avenged the loss of his uncle Hélio Gracie in a legendary battle with Valdemar. Carlson defeated him and the victory won him the respect and title of "King." Carlson was to meet Valdemar in the ring six times. He won four times, and two matches were draws.

Carlson fought a total of eighteen Vale-Tudo fights. There was one time in Bahia (North Brazil) against Euclides Pereira, and the referees decided to give Pereira the victory but Carlson didn't think he had lost. He also fought a Brazilian champion, Passarito, who trained in Judo, Luta Livre, and Boxing. Carlson fought Passarito four times and he won 3 and drew once with him.

Carlson's hardest acknowledged fight was against Ivan Gomes. He described Gomes as a "monster." This extremely tough fight had three-ten minute rounds, and would only stop if a fighter fell out of the ring. Gomes weighed in at 98 Kg (215 lbs), and Carlson was 73Kg (160 lbs). But Carlson was in really good shape, if it wasn't for that, he stated that he would have lost.

Afterwards, Gomes became Carlson's student and became a "World Champion" in Carlson's words. Carlson reigned during the 1960s, and he is considered by Fabio Gurgel as one of the four champions of the Gracie clan.

Carlson Gracie continued his family's tradition by creating sports jiu-jitsu and a stable of NHB (no-holds barred) fighters. He is considered the father of sports jiu-jitsu. After he retired from the ring, he embarked on promoting sports jiu-jitsu. However, sports jiu-jitsu had its critic in Helio. He was an outspoken critic of sport jiujitsu, and very few of his top blackbelts competed in sport jiujitsu during the early years of the sport. Helio apparently saw his art as a form of self-defense and not sport.

Judo's founder Jigoro Kano had similar sentiments of his creation. However Carlson was able to attract corporate sponsors to support teams of jiu-jitsu fighters so they could train full-time in essence as professional athletes. The corporate sponsorship would be the impetus to persuade many of Helio's black belts to join the sport.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, due to the success of Jiu-Jitsu fighters in NHB competition, has been exported around the world. Royce and Carlson Gracie's fighters have fired up the interest of Americans and especially American martial artists in the US. Some of the best jiu-jitsu instructors have now made their home in the US. Helio's sons such as Reyson, Rickson, Royce, Royler, are all teaching in the US or have an affiliate academy here.

Romero Cavalcanti teaches in Atlanta, Georgia. Americans are now even going to Brazil to compete in the Mundial or annual World Championship. The Pan-American tournament was created to allow Americans to compete with Brazilians here in the US.

Carlson created one of the most powerful BJJ teams 'Carlson Gracie Arrebentacao' and was responsible for many of the top Black Belt fighters and instructors around including most of the founders of BTT like Mario Sperry, MUrilo Bustamante, Ricardo Liborio, Bebeo Duarte and Andre Pederneiras co-leader of Nova Uniao.

Carlson was the head instructor at the Carlson Gracie Team in Chicago, Illinois, USA where he made his official World Headquarters. There he joined his son Carlson Gracie, Jr., and Jeff Neal as school instructors.

All of us here at the IKF & ISCF headquarters and associates of us around the World offer to Carlson's family our best wishes and hope of course that Grandmaster Carlson rests in peace. Without him, the sport of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu would not be what it is today. Thank you for everything you have given and done for the Martial Arts.

ADDITIONAL NOTE: ISCF MMA Promoter Brett Moses has said he will have a moment of silence at his upcoming ISCF Full Throttle 6 show next Friday, February 10th at the Atlanta Civic Center in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

Further information on Grandmaster Carlson death will be posted here when available.
