WHEN WILL THE IKF SANCTION EVENTS AGAIN?

To assist in some thoughts here...
In states where the State Athletic Commission oversee the sport of Kickboxing and or Muay Thai, the IKF will be of course following the protocols of those states.

In states where there is no State Athletic Commission oversight, the IKF will have the task of making the right decision for the health and safety of all involved from fighters, trainers, officials and event staff. It's very unlikely that crowds will be a part of events for some time, but if so, the IKF will also make sure the health and safety of those crowds are also included in the decision making process.

As of this time, no event sanctioning and or regulating has been approved by the IKF which includes both semi as well as full contact events. The IKF is currently in discussions with experts in the field of fight sports, state commission members as well as individual promoters wanting IKF sanctioning for their events.

Yes, the IKF is aware there are other events happening around the globe. The IKF is also aware that many of these decisions have been financially based and lack quite a few of the already proposed and or required health and safety guidelines.

We have also seen events where health and safety guidelines have been required but there has been no one in the venues to assure these guidelines and or regulatory requirements are being followed. Although we fully understand the desires of each promotions request for sanctioning and or regulating, no dollar amount can replace the health and safety of anyone involved or anyone who is a part of these events.

The IKF will be making decisions for each event sanctioning and regulating request for each individual promoter on an individual basis and not just because another sanctioning body or state chooses to sanction, let alone regulate an event. That decision will be based on the opinions of the experts overseeing such events.

Too many are thinking about their own $$ and not enough about fighter, trainer and more so, OFFICIALS safety. The IKF has received quite a few e-mails from officials asking if their required or should they feel obligated to work such events and if they will be black balled if they don't. We as the IKF are telling them that no matter what decision the IKF comes to, it still comes down to their personal decision. Hopefully, we as the IKF will have helped them in making a decision for them in proving that it's either 100% safe for them, or if their health would be in danger at all.

The real issue here is not how much money people are losing, keep in mind, the IKF has made zero income since the mid March shutdown and the IKF takes in no funds unless the IKF sanctions an event, so if the IKF were only thinking of the financial side of things, the IKF would have started sanctioning events weeks ago. However, this is not the case. The issue here is not financial, it's simply health and safety for all involved. The real issue is, "Is it safe, for all involved?"

To make this issue more clear, It's no different than assuring people a bridge or a dam is safe. If the IKF feels there is a possibility a dam will break or the bridge will fall, it's the duty and responsibility of the IKF to hold off until the IKF can assure the health and safety of all involved. When everything has been reviewed, looked at, inspected, discussed and confirmed, the IKF will then confirm that an event has been officially IKF Sanctioned.

Thank you for your understanding in assuring the Health and Safety of all involved in the fight sport industry.
PS: This statement is also related to all ISCF Pro & Amateur MMA events and all IAB Boxing events worldwide at this time.

Paul Biafore / Andrew San Paul
By Steve Fossum - IKF

The last time any of us saw Paul Biafore of Missaga, Ontario, Canada in the ring he was winning the IKF World Title when he defeated Bernard "Swiftkick" Robinson of Pittsburgh, PA, USA by TKO at the end of the 4th round in Lowell, Massachusetts, USA on May 14th, 1999.

Biafore was ahead on all the cards at the time, 40-36, 40-35 & 40-35. The bout was for the IKF Pro Full Contact Rules World Welterweight Title. With the win Biafore improved his record to 31-4-1 with 16 wins by KO and it would appear he had plenty of fight left in him.

However, the truth was, although he had plenty to dish out to others in the ring, it seemed no one wanted a part of Biafore ever again. Since his IKF World Title victory in May of 1999 he never received any worthy offers to fight again. So instead of sitting around to wait for the phone to ring he started doing other things.

Two of those things helped in his decision to pack up his bags and move to sunny Southern California. His quest... To pursue a career in Music as well as teach his skills to others.

Biafore had nothing left to prove to anyone in the ring as a fighter. Holder of multiple World Titles, he's proven himself plenty to everyone. Over the years he was competing in Kickboxing we have watched his career closely. It's not hard to find many who would agree that he was clearly one of the best fighter of his time in his weightclass.

Biafore always came to the table with dedication, diligent, confidence, depth of knowledge and experience. To find another competitor like Biafore may take a lifetime. However, Paul is now known as Andrew San Paul and has been moving up quite well in his music career. His songs "We Are the People" & "There's Hope" hit the Charts on Jamwave, an Internet Radio site at number 30 today and There's Hope at number 35 today.

Andrew San Paul also has a few Music Videos that can be found on YouTube and you can purchase cuts from his album, "Let's Spread Love Around" on spotify, amazon, apple music, itunes and other sites. We miss him in the ring, but we're happy he's doing what he loves. Keep moving forward Champ!

Talk About A WOW Factor!
By Steve Fossum - IKF

If you ever saw Marek Piotrowski fight, that's exactly what you thought of him, WOW!

First time I saw him fight was April 15th, 1994 on one of Scott Coker's well known Strikeforce Kickboxing events in San Jose CA, USA. He won a 12 round decision against another outstanding fighter, Javier Mendez of San Jose, CA. to win the ISKA Full Contact Light Heavyweight World Title.

So who is Marek Piotrowski?
Here's some info on this Outstanding Fighter...

Born August 14th, 1964 in Debe Wielkie, Poland, "The Punisher" as they called him stood 6'2" tall and generally fought at 187 lbs. However, he fought as a Middleweight, Light Heavyweight, Cruiserweight and Heavyweight. His background was in Boxing, Kickboxing and Kyokushin Karate (Black Belt) and Jujutsu. In 1988 he moved from Poland and fought out of Chicago, Illinois, U.S.

Marek fought between 1984 until 1996. his last kickboxing bout was in December of 1995 when he defeated Steffano Tomiazzo in Katowice, Poland by a 12 round decision to win the WKA Full Contact Heavyweight World title.

He continued his fighting in Pro Boxing and had his last Pro Boxing bout on December 12th, 1996, a decision win over Greg Lavely in Stadionsporthalle, Hannover.

As a professional kickboxer he fought and defeated such great fighters as, Conrad Pla, Michael McDonald, Neil Singleton, Bob Handegan, Rick Roufus, Don Wilson, Bob Thurman, Mark Longo, Mike Winkeljohn, Javier Mendez and Steffano Tomiazzo.

His only two loses came from Rick Roufus and Rob Kaman. His loss to Roufus was in a rematch of the bout Marek had won. The first meeting was for Roufus' PKC United States Middleweight title which Marek won by a unanimous 12 round decision on August 19th, 1989 in Chicago, Illinois, USA taking Marek's record to a perfect 22-0.

Roufus avenged the loss on June 6th, 1991 in Chicago, Illinois, USA by a head kick KO in round 2. The fight was for the vacant ISKA Full Contact Light Heavyweight World title and Marek's PKC Full Contact Light Heavyweight World title he had won over Don Wilson on November 4th, 1989 in a 12 round Split decision in a fight that happened directly after he defeated Roufus the first time they fought. Sadly Wilson was never granted a rematch as Roufus was and to this day, many wonder if the outcome would have been the same.

Marek's only other loss came to the legendary Rob Kaman of Amsterdam, Netherlands (97-12-1 with 77 KO's) in November of 1992 in Paris, France by TKO in the 7th round. the bout was for the vacant ISKA Oriental Rules Light Heavyweight World title.

As an Amateur Kickboxer and Karate fighter in Poland he won several Amateur titles that included:

  • 1987 Poland Full Contact Kickboxing Champion.
  • 1987 Full Contact Kickboxing World Cup.
  • 1987 WAKO Full Contact World Champion.
  • 1985 Poland Senior Karate Championship Gold.

  • 1989 PKC Full Contact Light Heavyweight World Title.
  • 1989 FFKA Full Contact Light Heavyweight World Title.
  • 1989 PKC Full Contact Middleweight United States Title.
He retired with a record most fighters can only dream about;
  • Amateur Kickboxing: 17-0.
  • Pro Boxing: 21-0.
  • Pro Kickboxing: 42-2 with 27 Knockouts.

Marek's additional recognitions include:

  • 1987 Piotrowski: 'The Siren' award from the Sportowiec magazine from being the best Polish sport discovery of the year.
  • On three separate occasions he was placed in the top ten of the best Polish sportsmen of the year in the Przeglad Sportowy ranking (1988, 1989, 1990), twice coming runner up.

DAILY DOSE OF MOTIVATION...

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, the education, the money, than circumstances, than failure, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company... a church... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice everyday regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past... we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% of how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our Attitudes.
