Results From Bernard Doyle's Dragons Lair's
Dragon Wars - Ireland VS Wales
September 26th, 2010 - Kilkenny, Ireland

  • WHO: Bernard Doyle's Dragons Lair
  • WHERE: Gort Community Centre, Ireland
  • WHAT: IKF Amateur Kickboxing: Ireland VS Wales
  • IKF Representative: Mr. Pete Foley
  • IKF Event Referee: Mr. Brian "Goldie" Bourke & Mr. Joe Wilson
  • IKF Judges: Mr. Ross Barret (Cappaquin), Mr. PJ McCool (Thurles), Mr. Cathal Manning (Galway), Mr. Bobby Nolan (Dublin)

The Dragons Lair Kickboxing Gym in Kilkenny which only opened its doors about 12 short months ago had its first IKF Sanctioned Full Contact Kickboxing promotion in Kilkennys O' Loughlin Gaels GAA Club on Sunday. If they were out to make a statement, they certainly did that and more!

Promoter Bernard Doyle and his team put on a top class show with an action packed fight card that was witnessed by over 800 enthusiastic and very vocal fight fans. This show had junior fighters, senior fighters, an amatuer IKF All Ireland Title fight, International Bouts (both Amatuer and Professional) and all the phizzazzz of a well organised event! Most of all, in these dark economic times, it had extremely well priced tickets designed to give the fans more value for their money and take the sting out of the cost for the pure entertainment. it was an offer for hard pressed families and fight fans that was greatly appreciated by all.

The show went smoothly and all the Judges, Referees and Officials worked hard and delivered good verdicts with no arguments from either corner. One fight that stood out was between two young ladies who had the place Rumbling and on the edge of their seats. The result was a draw and they were Megan Maher from Pat Rockets Gym in Waterford and Helen Meagher from the Dragons Lair Camp in Kilkenny.

Another cracker of a contest was the IKF Middleweight fight which was for the recented vacated belt. This was between local hero Clayton Delaney and Waterford fighter Sean O' Neill. These two had a little bit of history as Delaney had Knocked out O' Neill in Waterford about 4 months ago. This fight was about pride as well as the IKF belt that seemed to spur O' Neill on to a closely fought victory to win the Title. However Clayton Delaney can certainly hold his head up high as he had O' Neill on the back of his heels and covering up several times throughout the 5 rounds. IKF Representative Mr. Pete Foley commented that it was a first class and extremely competitive fight that could have been a main event anywhere on the planet.

Then of course you had the two main events which certainly didn't fail to deliver as John Paul Soammes and Vinny Di Ruscio both knocked out their Welsh opponents, Soammes with a left hook body shot in the 4th and Di Ruscio with a spectacular head kick at the end of the 1st round.

Hodges vs Balanos Rematch...
Could Be Fight of the Year?

Daniel Hodges, Rocklin, CA and Gaston Balanos, Dublin, CA both set for an epic Re-Do!

The count down is on for another exciting IKF Muay Thai Kickboxing show sure to be a tell-all for the new direction of the great sport of kickboxing! Kickboxing is on fire and the fight fans are feeling the heat of the excitement brewing for greater events to come! AK Promotion's commitment to growth is unyielding and now fighters young and old as well as the experienced or novice are getting a chance to show the packed houses of fight fans their true wares. Some are in the process of preparing for the next big show in the area October 8th, 2010 in Sacramento, CA in the Grand Ballroom of the Doubletree Hotel.

Daniel Hodges of Rocklin, CA and Gaston Balanos of Dublin, CA will be fighting for the IKF CA Welterweight title but are not the main event on the upcoming show. However, if you witnessed their last fight that ended in a draw, action packed with toe to toe action, you would know that this is not a fight you want to just hear about later, but instead, you will want to be on the front row of this brawl for it all! Although only the semi main for this event, it will be a fight with main event caliber written all over it!

It's evident in Balanos and Hodges' demeanor that neither of these guys are afraid of each other but both have high regards for the other's ability which will make for some awesome fireworks in the ring!

Left: Hodges lands a kick on Balanos' chest
Right: Balanos lands a kick on Hodges
)

Gaston gave a call to AK Promotions' office the other day...after some prodding from Hodges camp to make it clear "That Daniel better be ready for 5 hard rounds and be ready for a good butt kicking!", he made it clear of his intentions to take the title back to Dublin.

However, on the other hand, Hodges has his own plans to bring the title home himself and is not shy about his claim for the IKF Gold. He's been training hard and inviting many of his friends, family and military associates to witness the battle. Hodges, like Balanos, makes it clear to everyone that this will be a great fight and one of these warriors will truly go down for the count if he gets careless, and the look in Hodges eyes is clear that he means what he says.

Balanos is a skilled Muay Thai technician while Hodges is more of a brawler who is very strong, hard hitting and improving as time goes by. The results could go either way...but one thing for sure, the fans will get their money's worth out of this fight alone...get ready for a war!

Both fighters traded hard blows throughout the night in their bout on July 2nd, 2010 in Sacramento, California...
We expect the same in October!

The main event will be Jon Pryor out of Sacramento California. Prior lost his quest for the IKF North American title back in August and be looking to redeem himself in the ring. He will be taking on Quincy Shoemann of Oakdale, California. This fight could be a great match-up if both men want it bad enough and willing to leave it all in the ring and come away as the IKF United States Championship. Either way they choose...there will not be room for excuses when the final bell sounds.

Just before the Hodges - Balanos fight will be TJ Arcangle of San Francisco, California verses Gary Archuletta of Poway, California. Both camps have been relatively quiet to this point but both teams are preparing to bring their best arms to battle, as each of them wants to step forward with a new championship belt around their waste. Normally, Arcangle would be the main event but had to take a back seat on this one due to his loss on the July 2nd card to tough Gabriel Carassco of San Jose, California. Although he has added a win to his record since, he has to continue to prove himself to AK Promotions if he wants to move closer to obtaining an IKF World Title...a knockout of this opponent would be a step in the right direction...but for what we hear of Archuletta, this will not be an easy task.

Another up and coming fighter seeking to show they are ready to reign supreme is Sean Cronin (Left) of Rocklin, California who reminds you of someone right out of a Rocky Movie. Part Irish and Italian, Cronin loves to fight, hits extremely hard and is well built for the sport. He won his last fight back in July with a second round knockout and looking for a similar result in a few weeks when he takes on Miguel Toro (Right) of Modesto, California who is trained by Jesse Vasquez.

Vasquez is confident in his fighter and says "Toro has been training for the last year. He trains 6 days a week, has incredible endurance, strong kicks and punches hard. He never complains about anything I ask him to do, he comes to train hard and is ready to destroy his opponent on October 8th!" Oh well folks...looks like we have another great fight brewing to the delight of those in attendance! Bring It On!

Super Heavyweight, Rich Davis or Rocklin, California was also scheduled to fight but his opponent had to pull out and no replacement was available that made sense for his debut fight. Davis, who is the son of 2 time World Champion and Promoter Johnny "Super Foot" Davis" is viewed by those who've witnessed him in several IKF Point Muay Thai Kickboxing events as a fighter that could go places. At 230lbs, Strong, excellent boxing skills and Kicks hard and moves like a middleweight... If he gets serious about the fight game, consider this notice to the Super Heavyweight Division.

A newcomer trying to make her mark in the Kickboxing world is Lisa Hensley (Right) out of Vacaville, California. She seems to have a complete package...beauty, brains, and brawn but ultimately it's how she can put all of this to use in the ring, is what will count most. Shortly after relocating to California to complete her Master's degree, Lisa began training in Muay Thai at the Cesar Gracie Academy under instructor Dan Black. Initially her training was strictly for fitness. However, that quickly changed after she stepped in the ring for the first time. Unexpectedly, Lisa had a natural aggressiveness and the heart of a fighter. Once she got the taste of blood there was no stopping her. Lisa trains six days a week, mixing her routines with technique, cardio, calisthenics, sparring and most recently Brazilian Jujitsu.

After training in four states and Ireland, she is hopeful for an opportunity to train in Thailand after graduation this May." October 8th, she will have yet another chance to step in the ring as she takes on Jennifer Faust who also has as similar beauty, brains and brawns thing going for her. Faust is out of San Leandro, California and is trained by Ivan Ramos.

A.K. Promotions is putting together another exciting show that hopes to leave everyone in shock of the reality of how great Kickboxing really is! As Always, the show will start with the singing of the National Anthem that will be performed by recording artist Rodge Mamauag of Elk Grove, California. Rodge will also perform another patriotic song later in the show. Also, blasting the sounds for the evening will be DJ. Marlo Bucaojit of Fairfield, California... Rumor has it, he's the real deal and will keeping the show hopping and jamming! As always ring announcer Mr. Wayne Wilson of Sacramento, California will keep the show moving throughout the evening in Vegas fashion. Photography by Mr. Chris Kisela.

The past few IKF Muay Thai Kickboxing events promoted by A.K. Promotions have been right at capacity and they're hoping for similar results this time out. You are encouraged to get your tickets early to secure your seat for what's sure to be one of the most exciting events of the year!

When these two fighters met for the first time in 2009 they produced one of the fights of the year, and this re-match was every bit as exciting. Alexander took the spoils that time inflicting Brent's only defeat, and a re-match was always going to happen somewhere down the line.
With both men making winning progress and current champion Jake Richards being stripped due to inactivity and weight issues, this was the natural meeting place.

It's ok to dream! Just work hard and they may even come true! I remember as a youth practicing the martial arts and participating in Karate tournaments almost every weekend across the country. After years of hard work and dedication, I would be noted as one of the top rated karate tournament sparring competitors on the East Coast. Years later, I would win one of the most coveted Grand Championships in the world…The Battle of Atlanta. This tournament was held in Atlanta, GA and hosted approximately 1500 competitors. I competed in the Black Belt division which had over 300 very experienced competitors and some of the best point karate fighters in the world! In order to compete and win this division, you had to rock and roll… fighting as many as 8 to 10 times to win the grand prize that consisted of a huge trophy and cash! I remember after winning this tournament and a string of other grand championships, my friend telling me that "what you really need to do is go to the Super Grands…winning that event says even more than the Battle"

I was a little taken aback by the comment but later realize the Super Grands (SG) was indeed a bigger prize to win. As time past, I never got the opportunity to attend the SG. Instead, I pursued a full contact Kickboxing career and as some of you know, I would eventually win many titles including two world championships respectfully. But this year, and some times as fate would have it and approximately 25 years of hard work, I received perhaps a bigger honor to be apart of the Super Grand World Games 2010.

It's been around nine years since I produced my version of semi contact Kickboxing called IKF Point Kickboxing©. We now have thriving circuits in California , Florida , Iran and North Carolina and forming circuits in areas like, New York and Kenya to name a few. This division was new to many here in the US but has been going on for years in areas like the United Kingdom etc.

What we did was coin and copyrighted a term that really fit what we were doing and why perhaps it comes off ones lips as second nature. Point….came from all the years of point karate fights I did but also means the fights are judged only on a 10 point must system, continuous fighting and No Knockouts are allowed. Kickboxing…meaning - it incorporates the main three styles of kickboxing- Hi, low kick and Muay Thai Kickboxing. We have been committed to keeping our fighters safe while having the most fun in a fair environment and this treatment of all competitors and spectators will continue as we march forward.

Since its inception, IKF Point Kickboxing© has produced quality, better skilled kickboxers and indeed serves as one of the leading incubators to rebuild the sport of kickboxing. Young fighters like, Katrina "The Storm" Nahe, who started IKFPKB fights as early as six years old and has since won two junior IKF World Classic Tournament titles and an IKF Regional title in Full Contact fighting.

So many others like, Daniel Hodges, Jon Pryor, Sean Cronin, Gary Grant just to name a few in the State of California started in IKF Point Kickboxing© and now pursuing full contact fights with better honed skills and confidence than those who did not start in the IKFPKB incubator process.

This year, on Tuesday, December 28th, 2010, IKF Point Kickboxing© divisions will be apart of the largest martial arts tournament in the US if not the world. Yes, through a lot of hard work and rejections, IKF Point Kickboxing© is finally getting its shot on the main stage of martial arts by being apart of the Super Grand World Games 2010 held this and next year in Sacramento, California from December. 26th to January 31st, 2010.

Yes, its ironic that it will be held at the very same place I already do my IKF Muay Thai Kickboxing Full Contact shows. I guess you can just call it hard work and fate! :) There are so many that can take credit for success of the IKFPKB over the years. Although, I'm careful about name dropping, I feel I would be remiss if I did not thank a couple people that I know were directly involved in this grand step forward.

First, IFS / IKF CEO Mr. Steve Fossum, who believed in the concept and agreed to join in with me to give it the worldwide appeal by sanctioning all events. There is also Mr. Dennis Guila, of Antioch, California who brought his club to our very first event back in 2002 at the Evergreen Community College in San Jose, California and has continued to support it in diverse ways.

Mr. Sean Griffin of Indian Trail, North Carolina deserves thanks for being the first IKF/PKB Representative and promoter outside of the state of California where the IKF/PKB was originated. To this day, he has continued to promote events in that area with constant growth.

Thanks also goes to Rubi Navarro and Carlos Navarro of San Francisco, California for their contributions to its growth. A special thanks to Mr. Ray Delgado, who was the first major karate tournament promoter to step to the plate and allow us to come into his event. Mr. Delgaldo's karate tournament host several hundred martial artist and his event began to show others the vital role IKF/PKB could play in their events.

As of late though, Mr. Jordan Pallen President and Mr. Tim Calvin Vice President of the AMAPA Group based in Northern, California have been very active pushing the concept and name of IKF/PKB to their group and others like CEO of the NBL and SKIL organizations and promoter of The Super Grand World Games Mr. Boice Liddell.

A special thanks to all new leagues that are signing on like the California Black Belt League ( CBBL) owned by the Merefuentas Brothers in the Modesto, California area and new comers Premier Martial Arts, who have schools in many states across the country, every trainer, fighter, spectator or judge that has come out and assisted with an IKF Point Kickboxing© event...THANK YOU!

Additionally, the work of Jerry Mendez and Daniel Pineda in Florida can not go unnoticed as they have had several events in that area. Jerry Mendez is currently working on starting an IKF/PKB league in New York City.

After the IKF/PKB inception, I began to have dreams and envisioned the day that it would be accepted on the world stage of martial arts and be apart of tournaments across the United States. Being apart of The Super Grand World Games this year, is truly an honor and an indicator that the sky is the limit for years to come as IKF Point Muay Thai / Kickboxing© is introduced to more states, and countries! Forward March!

Note: The previously scheduled 2011 NEW YEARS DAY IKF Muay Thai Kickboxing that was supposed to be the last event of the Super Grand World Games has been cancelled by the State. The California State Athletic Commission said that the State's budget crisis would not allow them to pay overtime to state employees being that New Years is considered a holiday. The decision came up after the date was pre-approved by the office. AK Promotions will be looking at many other dates for 2011 to continue to promote one of the greatest contact sports in the world! "Be Great, Powerful Beyond Measure"

In all our lives, "Things happen" that can take the wind out of our sails and put the flame out of our burning passion to be the best.
The passion to not only keep our own flame alive, but the passion to step up and help others be passionate about their dreams and goals as well. In the pain whether mental or physical, the tears flow from both the sorrow and the anger of the moment and eventually we break down... Our bodies become weak, our minds empty and the passion dies as we get knocked down to our knees. We feel it's less painful to just stay down than to rise up again and face the world because we feel that we have nothing left to give, nothing more to fight for. Whether the blow was from a kick or a punch or from an experience we witnessed, the pain may be different, but the hurt is all the same.
I was once told that

'A man can cry if he is going after something, but never if he's turning away.'

How true these words were and still are today...
It's how we deal with these things, these moments, that determine what kind of person we are and what kind of person we will become from this moment forward... Do we allow the sorrow, the pain, the anger and the fear to keep us down, or do we choose to get up and truly show others how great we truly are... To become Great and Powerful Beyond Measure... If you have not done so yet, you will face this decision in your lives if not once, many times. It's all a matter of which road you choose when making your decision... As for me, it's time to get up yet again, and show the world...

Thanks Duke...

Mostafa Mosadegh
Wins IKF World Title at Kish Island, Iran

July 23rd, 2010

RESULTS CORRECTED ON 9-9-10
July 23rd, 2010: Martial Arts Festival at Kish Island, Iran:
Mostafa Mosadegh from Iran, was announced the IKF Pro International Rules Cruiserweight Interim World Champion (186.1 lbs - 195 lbs. or 84.6Kg - 88.6Kg) after his opponent Alex Anoushian was disqualified in round 3 after numerous warnings by the referee to stop throwing knee strikes. Knee strikes are not allowed under International Rules.

The IKF is now in the process of confirming Mosadegh's title defense to confirm his World Title which the IKF hopes to be promoted either in the USA or in Iran within the next 6 months.

One of the top contenders for the bout is former 2 time IKF World Champion Rick Roufus of Phoenix, Arizona, USA. Roufus won the IKF Pro International Rules Heavyweight World Title back on May 15th, 1999 (Bout at left as Roufus landed a head kick that dropped Longinidis for an 8 count) when he defeated Stan Longinidis of Boxhill, Victoria, Australia by TKO after Loniginidis suffered a broken bone in his foot at the end of round 9. Roufus was ahead on all 3 judges cards at the time, 89-81, 86-83 and 88-81. The bout was in Lowell Massachusetts, USA.

On September 29th, 2003 Roufus Officially announced his retirement to the IKF after he tore his ACL (Knee) in a K-1 bout. Although he had come back from knee injuries in the past, this time he felt he could not recover from the severity of the injury this time. however, since his announced retirement, Roufus has come back and fought "Many" times including 11 MMA bouts (Mixed Martial Arts.

This was not the only IKF Title Roufus won. On January 22nd, 1994 at Caesars Tahoe Casino in Tahoe, Nevada, USA Roufus knocked out Michael McDonald of Vancouver, BC, Canada, by "KO" at :43 seconds of round 1 to win the vacant IKF Pro Full Contact Rules Light Heavyweight World title. The bout was memorable at the time because the IKF (Having been formed in 1992) had just started sanctioning the Pro levels of kickboxing and Roufus became the second IKF Mens Professional Champion and the second IKF Mens Pro World Champion.

Also on that contenders list is IKF Pro Full Contact Rules world Champion Mike Sheppard of Glenville, West Virginia, USA. Sheppard won his IKF World Title on April 19th, 2008 in Morgantown, West Virginia, USA when he defeated Antoine McRae of Elizabeth New Jersey by unanimous decision.

Sacramento's Big Night of IKF Muay Thai Kickboxing…
Three Big Title Fights Planned - October 8th, 2010
Promoted by A.K. Promotion

When it comes to top promotions for the sport of Kickboxing in the State of California, AK Promotions is attempting to make its mark in the fight world by producing some of the best shows in the country! A.K. Promotions (AKP) is determined to take the sport to its deserving magnitude.

As of late, they have been promoting IKF Muay Thai Kickboxing shows in the Sacramento, CA area consistently since September 2009. With October 8th, 2010 and another show being set for January 1st, 2011 -
New Years Day, Titled 'The Kickoff Fight Party'
in Sacramento, the tide for Kickboxing is starting to change. Fighters dreaming of one day becoming champions as well as Kickboxing fans from afar are feeling the momentum of greater things happening for the ultimate striking sport as they pack arenas to see what's next!

Well, what's next is a Las Vegas style show that's set to please the true fight fan! The Doubletree Hotel's Grand Ballroom in Sacramento, CA will be the host location complete with special lighting, adult beverage, great music, food and great fights! This event will be one of AKP's largest with a planned 3 (Possibly 4) title fights and approximately 15 bouts in total on the agenda! Gyms across the state are getting geared up to put their fighters in the spotlight to show their family, friends and hundreds of fans what they have in their arsenal!

Gaston Balonas VS Daniel "Hitman" Hodges

One of the featured title bouts will be a REMATCH between Gaston Balonas of Dublin, CA (Left) who is trained by well known Kirian Fitzgibbons and Daniel "Hitman" Hodges (right) of the Rocklin Kickboxing and Boxing Club.

In their last bout on July 2nd of this year in front of a packed house of screaming fans, these two top contenders gave the fight of the night as they etched out an exciting draw over four rounds. Apparently judges gave Balonas the first two rounds and Hodges rounds 3 and 4. In a four round fight, ties are pretty common.

This time around, the fight will be for five grueling rounds and one can only imagine that these two talented fighters will start at round 5 from their last fight. One of them will walk out the new IKF California State Muay Thai Welterweight Title...its just a matter of who wants the legacy more!

This fight should again have fans on their feet cheering both young warriors on to victory! Who will win? There are predictions coming out of both camps but with the fireworks from the last fight, one could guess that someone is going down for the count! :) Get ready for a war!

T.J. Arcangle VS Gary Archuletta

T.J. Arcangle is a name hard to forget. He has been the main event on most of AK Promotions shows in the past year but this time around he will be the semi-main event as he has to get back on top of the mountain again after a close loss on the last card to tough Gabe Carrasco of San Jose, California for IKF United States Title.

Although there was talk of a rematch, due to Carrasco's schedule, he was not available for the rematch and looks to be moving on to bigger fights and possibly a professional career. However, T.J. who's out of San Francisco and trained by Kru Sam Phimsoutham will get the opportunity to step up another notch, but this time for the IKF West Coast Light Welterweight title. He will do battle with Gary Archuletta of Poway, California who is trained by Alex Palma and currently has a California title with the United States Muay Thai Federation. A few weeks ago, Archuletta surprisingly beat contender Arturas Barkauska of San Francisco California who was originally set to challenge Arcangle for his IKF California title.

Yes, there is more…

Jon Pryor VS Quincey Schoemann

Sacramento's local fighter, IKF West Coast Champion Jon Pryor ( Bot. Left) who is trained by Cedric Robinson of Robinson's Tae Kwon Do (a chain of about 18 schools throughout the Sacramento area) will be attempting to capture the IKF United States Super Welterweight Title. Pryor, who is a talented kickboxer with impressive boxing and kicking ability will have his hands full with Quincey Schoemann ( Bot. Right) of Oakdale, CA and trained by Tom Theofanopoulos.

Most observers are impressed with Schoemann and his well-rounded Muay Thai techniques and he only has one defeat so far. He's young and hungry and with Pryor sometimes not wanting to engage in serious battle, it may be a good night for Schoemann.

However, if both men are willing to go to the 'mud' for the championship, this could be a bout loaded with beautifully executed techniques that may find their target and create an exciting KO for the anticipated full house of Kickboxing fans!

AK Promotions also hopes to feature the always exciting
Katrina "The Storm" Nahe
of Antioch who is trained by Dennis Guila also of Antioch and Nahe's trainer since her start in the martial arts.

Nahe is the current IKF Junior Amateur Western Regional Atomweight Champion and a two time IKF World Classic Tournament Champion. The IKF World Classic is equivalent to the Golden Gloves tournament in Boxing. Nahe had planned to face Elaine Parra of Imperial Beach, California, trained by Victor Beltran. This was to be an exciting fight for the vacant IKF Junior Amateur Girls Flyweight World Title in the Modified Muay Thai Rules Division / K-1 type rules. However, the IKF was informed late today that Parra had apparently injured her knee and had to pull out of the bout. The IKF is awaiting the faxed medical reports to confirm the injury.

Now the IKF and AK Promotions is left with the task of finding a replacement for Nahe, one they hope to fill very soon. Any takers?

Approximately 15 fights including men and women's bouts are set for Friday night October 8th at the beautiful Doubletree Hotel's Grand Ballroom!
